MT: Concealed weapon permit applications double

Post by seamusTX »

In Montana, applications for concealed weapon permits are on course to be more than double the 2008 figure.

I was surprised that anyone in Montana didn't already have one. :smilelol5:

What surprises, and confuses, me is that a bastion of liberalism such as Oregon is an apparent open-carry state but any unlicensed concealed carry will get you thrown under the 'pokey'. BTW, Oregon recognizes NO other state's CHL.

I'm missing something in this thought process :headscratch .

Most of the western states are open carry because nobody has gotten around to making open carry illegal there (including California, in general). As you know, the practice is uncommon and likely to draw attention except in New Mexico and Arizona.

It's curious that Oregon does not have reciprocity. They may just have an old-fashioned set of laws that have not been updated for whatever political reason.

According to handgunlaw.us, they issue non-resident permits. Someone who has occasion to travel there frequently could get one.

Makes perfect sense to me...

They want to protect their criminals by helping them identify people who could potentially shoot them during commission of their criminal ways. This way, they will be sure to commit their crimes in places that do not have citizens lawfully carrying handguns, and of course, this way, they don't get hurt!
