San Antonio Zoo

Post by Markn »

Sorry if this has been asked before-- Is the San Antonio Zoo posted with 30.06. I have searched and could not find any threads about the zoo.
Thanks,
MN

It is owned by the City, so there can be no binding posting there. I don't know if it has proper signs or not though.

Last time I was there (May), no 30.06, and no metal detectors.

How does the SA zoo compare to the Houston Zoo? Better, worse, no difference? Looking for opinions.

The kids loved the zoo but I found it depressing. As long as you're there you need to visit Augie's Barbed Wire Smokehouse. It's right next door and IMO some of the best bbq in San Antonio.

about the same in my opinion, though the Houston zoo does have a new baby giraffe so that was cool to see. it is rather depressing to see those animals in cages. i am no hippie tree hugging save the whales type, but i don't like seeing "wild" animals caged up. we were at the houston zoo last weekend and it was miserably hot and the large cats didn't want to come out and play, the bear was asleep in its river. the train at the SA zoo is WAAAAAAy better. i was amazed by the size of one of the giraffes, sucker is TAAAAAALL. the kids loved it but i could have passed. now NASA OTOH was cool.

MMMmmmmmmm! I love Augie's! I've been going there pretty much since they opened. I was driving the train in the park at the time and just fell in love with their BBQ.

Is that how they get the animals to behave?

I went to the Dallas Zoo this last weekend and looked for a sign and did not see one. On the way out, in one of the ticketing boths, behind the glass was a 30.06 sign that was grey with white letters (I think). I don't think the letters were 1" high.
