SFA XD question

I recently purchassed an XD40 SubC,
Tonight I was going over how to field strip and just trying to get as fimilar with the weapon as I can before I begin to carry (whenever that darn plastic comes)

So my question is when i have a full mag ( Hi-cap) not sure if the 9 round does this, but when I insert the clip I can not get it to lock in with out pushing pretty hard, and if I go to release it it is a bear to push the mag release. If I take 1 round out it is a little eaiser to insert the clip. Anyone else had this issue?

I've got the XD-40 4", and yes, when you have a full mag, it is harder to get it to lock in. I don't even give it a second thought any more. After at least 3000 rounds through it, I've not had any mag-related problems. As a matter of fact, I've accidentally stuffed 13 rounds in a 12 round mag, along with one in the tube. I shot 13 rounds, and the slide didn't lock back. I pulled the slide back slightly and could see the 14th round in the tube. Aimed...shot...14. I duplicated it just to make sure I wasn't having a senior moment. I don't over-stuff the mag on purpose though, as I know it will prematurely weaken the spring.

Same problem with my sc and 4". Just have to push up on bottom of mag and hit release to make them easy to get out. Mags are definitely locked in tight. Could be by design but i suspect the window for mag catch is just a tad too low. No problems as far as operation though.
Tried the mags from my wifes 40 and didn't have the problem.

When the mag is full, to the last round, the spring is at max compression and the last round may not be able to move very far to accomodate hitting against the bottom of the slide.

This is one reason why AR and AK users usually load down spare magazines by a round or two, so that if they do a closed bolt reload, the mag will insert and latch without difficulty.

Thanks for the quick responses, I have only about 150 rounds through this gun, and 50 were for my CHL class, so I have not had alot of range time with it and just wanted to make sure nothing was wrong with my baby!

I've learned to test this out with new guns, particularly carry guns. Most magazines are capable of being loaded to their stated capacity and easily loaded into the gun with the slide/bolt forward. I happen to have a Glock 30 realistically holds one round less than the stated capacity for each of my magazines. The function is not impaired with a full mag at all, it's just difficult to seat the mag.

My solution is to load two mags to capacity, chamber the first round from one of the mags, then swap the mags out. This gives me a fully functional gun at full capacity, and a spare that is down one round, but slaps into place for any necessary mag changes.

Some mags will loosen up over time, others (like mine) are resistant to change.

Slam the magazine in! A gun is designed to contain an explosion. Unless you were born on Krypton or the gun is a piece of junk you aren't going to hurt it with your bare hands. I see people gently pushing the mag into the mag well. Pulling the slide back and letting it go forward with their hand on it. Then looking at the gun with a dumbfounded look when it doesn't fire or the mag falls out on the first shot. The reason we practice tap, rack, bang drills is because many folks won't "Tap" when they load.
