Firearms do not shoot themselves. You can place your sidearm on the table and have a stare-down contest with it. Your sidearm will never twitch, shift, or move in any way. Much less fire a round of its own accord.

I've no doubt that nearly all of these stories get started when someone has their finger on the trigger when they shouldn't. Then, after the trigger was pulled, they say "It just went off." Who wants to admit they made a really, really dumb move with a firearm?

I have always believed this to be the case in the majority of AD's.

Thanks for all the info guys!!it really helps me not to be scary as much as before.since I m still waiting on my chl.I will pratice that with the snap caps at home until I get comfortable with that I ll slowing adjust to a real one...hope won't shot myself lol .thanks

I think I'll try carrying a 1911 with a snap cap for a couple of days. I think I'll be fine after that. I know I love drawing and firing with it cocked and locked, but carrying that way just felt weird.

I already have to practice racking the slide because of my current summer carry pistol (old Beretta 948). I KNOW it's not very safe to carry with a chambered round!

Now I just have to pick out a new 1911...

If you're scared, then just practice racking the slide quickly to chamber a round. Carry it WITHOUT a round in the chamber. Everything in life has risk. It is unlikely that a modern gun would go off by itself, but not impossible. I carry with a round in the chamber, but a female friend of mine carries without a round in the chamber. It all boils down to what you're comfortable with.

Modern firearms will almost never discharge when dropped, and I've never heard of one "go off on their own".

I had a glock get knocked out of my holster 1 day while I was doing 130mph on my bike and cartwheeled down the road for a fairly long distance and it never went off. The gun was pretty much totaled but all 14 rounds including the 1 in the chamber were still there so unless you are going to abuse yours worse than that don't worry. As several of the other guys have said just get a good holster that covers the trigger and make sure it has good retention especially if you are going to get stupid on a back road with a motorcycle and always know where your sraps are when you are putting the gun in the holster.

A friend of mine has even thrown one out of a Helipcopter with a primered case. He was with a para-military police organization and they spent a week end trying to get a Glock to AD. Couldn't do it.

I think he meant that the Gun fell off and cartwheeled, not himself.

There's not much convincing per se. You need to feel comfortable about what you carry. Like many have said, modern handguns are designed to be carried with a round in the chamber, and all the big name brands, no matter how you drop them, they would not go bang without their triggers being pulled.

I purposely chose a Kimber 45 to carry because I did not feel comfortable with carrying a pistol that does not have an external safety. The main reason is that every time I re-holster the pistol, I must pay extra attention to a) ensure my finger is off the trigger, b) the trigger is not tangled in anything, c) the holster is free of any foreign object.

However, I do, from time to time (when I cannot find my Kimber 45's holster), carry my other pistols. In the winter, I carry G19 mostly, which is very similar to your XD. I think I am getting comfortable with carry those types of guns now.

I'll add one more that I don't think has been said if it was sorry. I would carry chambered. Get used to it and it won't be a big deal. Make sure when you do holster it that you back off the grip safety . That way if the trigger got bumped by some poly holster it would still be ok. Again this is highly unlikely. That is the only way I could see it going off by accident While bolstering or unholstering. These guns also have a drop safety so your good there also.Def no issue about going off while it's sitting in a good holster that's Hollywood stuff.
