Needed Certified Glock Armorer

Post by RPB »

My freind who was a Certified Glock Armorer in Houston was killed on duty when a bullet entered the armhole in his bulletproof vest years ago, and I've moved to a tiny town without a phone book so.....

I need a Certified Glock Armorer near Austin, Marble Falls, Llano, Lampasas, Temple, Georgetown, Round Rock area.

And, I don't know how to find one.

Any Ideas?

Basically what I need is pretty simple:

On my Glock 27 I want the following parts installed:

Glock 26 Trigger Housing with Ejector
Glock 26 Extractor with Loaded Chamber Indicator Carbon Steel Matte
Glock 26 Spring Loaded Bearing with Loaded Chamber Indicator Black

I could do it myself with what I was taught by my freind, but just in case someone prosecuted me in the future .... better to have it done by a qualified professional (probably would sound better to a jury, imho ..... just in case, but hopefully the situation will never arise)

The CHL instructor I took my class from was a certified Glock armorer, IIRC, but he lives north of Fort Worth.

My only other idea would be to call Glock USA and see if they have a listing of Texas guys. :???:

I've been very pleased with the services of Top Gun range here in Houston. They are also a lic. dealer (should make shipping easy) and when I last checked several of the guys that work there were Glock certified. They worked on my Glocks right when I walked in (no waiting, parts in stock).
Hope this helps.

I've never stopped in, but you might give these folks in Lampasas a call.

Thanks everyone.
I won't get to Houston until May, Fort Worth is a bit far ...

I called around like y'all suggested to GT and Lucy Creek etc etc, Lucy Creek is a SIG SAUER Certified Armorer, so I contacted this certified Glock one: (recommended by some.)

Apparently he does work for some Police Depts locally, and is giving me a really good price:

HANK FLEMING, Gunsmith
4722 South Congress Ave.
Austin, Texas 78745
(512) 445-6339
Certified armorer for major firearm manufacturers including Glock, Remington, Sig Sauer, and Smith & Wesson

Thank you

Basically what I'll end up with is a "low recoil, heavy barrelled, ported, more accurate (so less likely to injure any innocent bystanders) Glock 26" that is made reliable for constant carry by a certified Glock Armorer, rather than just adding a "drop in barrel". Starting with a 27 upper, but with the thicker extended ported conversion barrel (which also adds weight since it is a thicker walled and extended barrel) , and making the 27 lower into a 26 lower. The creation should be sweet on felt recoil, and safer, for that second shot sight acquisition for a double tap at the range too.

I'm thinking seriously about those new Fiber Optic glowing sights too which work well both day and night..... already have a laser for dusk and low light.

Just an FWIW: I don't know many folks who recommend a ported barrel on a carry handgun. If you ever have to use it in a contact or compressed position, the result could be some nasty hot gasses in your face. Just MHO only, but I don't think porting a short-barreled .40 will make a huge difference in recoil (there's generally more effect the longer the barrel), and wouldn't outweigh the issue of hot gasses blowing out of the top of the barrel. Just thinkin' out loud. But you might want to ask around a bit before committing to the porting.

Good advice, so I'll tell you my partiular situation so you'll understand my rationale/reasoning:

This will end up being a subcompact conversion ported heavy extended barreled 9mm ..... I have a ported .357 and I am aware of where the exhaust goes, so I thought carefully before getting ported, because I wouldn't load my snakeshot rounds in a ported barrel either, and I often carry a couple snakeshot rounds when I go fishing out here in the country for rattlesnakes, but I can put those in my PT92 (almost always carried in a Safepacker) or Glock 19 or Keltec P11 or ....

Where most people carry an Extra Magazine, I have only 1 hand and prefer to carry extra guns instead. I carry more than 1 gun, usually 3, often more than 3, and can select which to draw, if any, based on the situation.

Normally, my PT92 with laser would be used first, it's what I qualified with before and I'm the most accurate with it so far, but this one (also with laser and several other upgrades) is in case I specifically think need it in a spot I know I'd need very quick sight acquisition for that second or subsequent shots.

In a close contact situation, I'd probably use a different weapon, if I used a weapon at all, (I did once beat the second place in Texas Tai Kwon Do winner, but it was a real fight and not a competition.)

This thing may be so tame I'll just use the ported one at the range and replace it with a non-ported conversion heavy extended barrel though.... I'll have to try it and see .... then I could load my snakeshot in it too ... I AM seriously considering getting the NON-ported extended heavy conversion barrel too, probably that will be my SURPRISE Xmas gift to myself, since I already told myself about this one..

The reason I started with the .40 Glock 27, to use as a 9mm, instead of starting with the 26, is that conversion barrel is thicker, adding weight like a heavier barrel. I just want this thing to shoot like a .380 as far as recoil and if I found a HAARTS recoil reducer for a 27, I'd probably put that in too ... ha ha. Well, I guess I could try molding some lead fishing weights into that hole behind the magazine well..... :biggrinjester:

Anyway, this is only one of my BUGs to the PT92, I carry other BUGs too, so although it's a very remote possibility that I'd need to fire in front of my nieces face, in the passenger seat of the car, I'd use something different in that situation..
I'd hate to be in a close contact situation with a bad guy and the hot gasses set his shirt on fire, other people in the room might want to stomp out the fire before he got his shirt off.

Thanks for the thoughts though, you are correct :iagree:

10-4. Please let us know the final gunsmith and the result. It'll be a unique piece!
