Is this a problem?

Post by newTexan »

Question from a new-ish shooter.

Below is a pic of the two magazines I have. I've noticed a little groove on each one, possibly where I or someone else jabbed it with ammo trying to get it in. I have not had any FTF or whatever, but I am wondering if this is a problem or if it's normal wear and tear, and if there's any good way to remedy it. I plan to get more mags just to have more, but I also want to know if this is normal and such.

Thanks.

It kind of caused me concern to. My XD mags has those grooves to. I still haven't had any malfunctions though but if they start that's be one of the first places I look. For now I'd just keep trucking along with the mags the way they are.

I have seen those over the years in various magazines. No problems arise that I am aware of, but that is just my experience.

Run a fingernail across the grooves ans see if you feel it catch.

Thanks for the responses so far. I can run my fingernail across it and for the most part it does not catch. One of the mags, I can catch a bit but not on the top, but on the side of the plastic piece. Like I said, I haven't had any failures to feed/fire, but it seemed a little odd to me.

Looks like normal wear caused by the edge of the case. I would not worry about it.

Magazines like most things will one day be no good, but we are talking, what decades?
