WTS: S&W model 1917 Revolver

I have a S&W model 1917 Revolver Double Action .45 cal Serial number 41080 for sale.

It belonged to a New York police officer and I got it from his son-in-law.

Looking for $425 or best offer.

Can you specify .45 Colt or .45 acp?

Can you provide some information on how 'tight' it is when cocked? i.e. how much 'play' in the cylinder, both rotational and front to back

As an erstwhile collector of old guns, I'd say you're pretty high on your opening price. I'm not interested in S&W revolvers, so this is just an honest observation, not an attempt to adjust the price in the buyer's favor.

- Zero remaining finish except in the flutes
- Ill-fitting T-grip
- Terrible Dremel "carving" on the grips, which don't look to be original to start with.

If you have solid provenance that this was carried on duty by an NYPD officer, you're probably $75-100 high. If not, knock off another $50-75. Assuming it's still the original .45 ACP and not bored out for .45 Colt, and following the maxim to "buy the gun, not the story", you have a $250-350 gun there.

There should be moon or half moon clips with this to load .45ACP just like a 1911.

It will shoot without, but is hard to eject spent brass. It can also shoot .45 auto rim. (not .45 Colt)

When cocked, the cyl. has very little play either forward or backwards, nor rotation.
rotation play about the same as my J-frames. Forward and back, just a little more than my J

I would come down to the market price. Just looking for a home for a revolver that someone would appreciate, and could shoot some.
