Recommended Grain for .270

Post by rm9792 »

What is best suited for a .270, 22" barrel with 1 in 10 twist rate? I have choice of 130g or 150g bullets. Shooting out to 250 yds.

is it the heavier grain needs a faster twist or the other way around?

read here for more info.

I do not think either choice would matter as per rate of twist of your rifle. Both rounds should fly nicely to their targets.

The only way to know for sure which round is more accurate is to ........ shoot em both and see. In genral, the bigger the animal, the heavier the bullet (for better penetration). If for deer huntingl, the 130 should be fine on the typical whitetail. Maybe zero with 150s if mule deer.

I use the 130 grain with great results. All the game I've ever taken with my .270 have been single shot kills.

I love my .270. I've always shot 150gr through mine.
