Too many?

When my wife and I got married, I already had a reasonably good collection of guns. The idea that I would "need" another does not make sense to her. On the other hand, she has more shoes than I can count. What we do is each of us budget a monthly allowance which we spend on whatever we want. She saves hers until she can get whatever pair of shoes she wants and I save up for more guns. We then look at each other in bewilderment because we can't understand each other's purchase choices! It definitely keeps peace in the house though.

I have a suggestion, and I am serious about it.

Every once in a while, go out and buy her a really nice purse with your share of the mad-money. The benefits you reap from this may be numerous, and might also result in you getting an unexpected gun-shopping trip financed by your honey.

Coach purse. Cost a sum that makes your mouth dry up, but they last a decade.

With regard to shoes, you can easily find shoes that cost more than a new pistol or even a new Italian shotgun.

She has 6 coaches and 1 dooney, with matching wallets for 2 of them .

BUT, with the new CHL I can always say that I'll use it by carrying it with us... hummm... the "Use" of the gun was always the sticking point.

That's my approach. I just don't tell her about a new gun purchase right away.
I wait until the moment is right , and then I duck and run. When the smoke clears , she understands that there are worse things I could be doing , and if guns make me happy , then whats the harm.

With that said , it usually ends up costing me the equivalent amount of money on clothes and shoes for her.

It's not the guns that get me into trouble, it's the safes to put them in. I'm running out of floor space in my office at home. I've suggested getting rid of the piano in the living room and using that space but that didn't work too well.

At first my girl didn't like guns and was afraid of them. After three years of practicing at the range she is comfortable with them and doesn't care if I buy more. Her only complaint is that I buy guns that she can shoot. She is less than five feet and has small hands. So she says my next gun needs to be a .22. I have found that most people who are anti-gun don't approve of them because they are afraid of them. I have a friend who is a huge liberal and hated guns. Of course he only shot a gun once in his life. After I took him to the gun range he bought a handgun a week later. As for spouses the more you involve them the more they are comfortable with you buying more in my opinion.

My son and I have amassed a pretty nice little collection between us: 9 rifles and 10 pistols (I think...), and a shotgun. But my wife has no room to complain. She has 2 pistols of her own! She doesn't really care how many guns we own. She is (rightfully) more concerned about whether or not we can afford to buy one at the time the fancy strikes us. In all honesty, I think I'm about done acquiring guns. I've got just about 1 of everything I've ever wanted, and my list of wants was not all that long to begin with. I'm even considering selling one of my AR15s to fund some accessory purchases. THAT is a change for me, as I was previously all about acquisition and retention. But if I keep doing the acquisition and retention thing, I'll have to buy another safe... ...and a good safe is the price of another good rifle and scope...

So I think it likely that from here on in, I'll be more about refining my collection rather than growing it. For instance, one of my pistols is an H&K USP Compact in .40 S&W. It's a pretty neat gun and I like it and occasionally carry it, but all of our other semi-autos are .45 ACP, except my wife's Glock 19. I would like to simplify my caliber "situation," and so I'm beginning to kick around the idea of trading that H&K for something in either 9mm or .45 — preferably in .45. Maybe an XD45 or something like that.

you guys got it easy, its furniture and a remodeling, that's my trade off. Sometimes its cheaper to tuck away a few bucks and buy it in a tactical covert way.

I don't think you can have too many, you can have too few. My wife told me at 5 that was too many so I bought her a BDA 380 and that didn't help me out any. She finally decided she wanted a wheelgun so bought her a GP100 and away she went shooting.
Several years and several thousand rounds later I have 37 and she has 5 handguns and 3 long guns including an EBR. Now she questions when I buy one why I need it but doesn't gripe. She has been looking at my new SP101 bobbed hammer with a gleam in her eye lately and i am not liking it.
Have a concealed carry hobo purse ordered for her and guess i might as well stick a SP101 in it just to be safe. If you can get the better half shooting you got it made.

That's it in a nutshell right there. I'm lucky to have a wife that shoots. And carries. In a Hobo purse, no less.
