I agree. I've seen other forums where people get downright nasty (often over nothing). This is about the only forum I visit daily.

My comment was not intended to be critical, but constructive. As for posting now "19" times, I do find this forum to helpful and I read most of the information provided/responded too. I do not feel the need to type "ditto", etc when my conversation has nothing to add after 2 pages of posts. BTW - I did not take offense to the comment, but stating my case.

For the very clear record, I do think this forum is very helpful.

But I am often amazed how many people here are willing to:

- Help answer questions
- Offer guidance
- Offer prayer
- Give legal opinions
- Give tips
- Ect.

To people who are posting for the first time and to people who have been here since day 1

And having met (and shot with) some of the mods and members here, I can tell you that I really do feel like I'm sitting in my living room with a bunch of friends chatting about stuff we all care about.

Not to mention getting educated, and even having my mind opened up a bit!

Going back to the days of Packing Dot Org...This forum when it started up was a great relief...And this place was very open about the civility, and the need to maintain a healthy respect, even though we knew there were going to be differences of opinion, that made for the right mix of discussion and healthy debate...

Yet, most of the time I felt a lot of us were preaching to the choir most of the time...

And as far as the repetitiveness of the topics, that only added to the base knowledge of the newer participants, and helped more than it hindered...

No question is ever stupid, and no "gun" topic is ever verboten...

The more of us on the same page the better!!!

Because at the end of the day the more we have on our side, those battles we fight go a lot easier...Because the war will never end...

For those of you who have been around, please just reply to the topic - if not just move on.

Sorry to be off topic, but it has caught my attention.

Please look here and here for answers to your question :biggrinjester: :biggrinjester: :biggrinjester:

Seriously, I have been a member for about a year and I can tell you that these guys are the nicest guys around. Very friendly and helpful. Thanks for the reminder though on always being on our best behavior though. A reminder is always helpful.

Ok, please don't kill me, but I in some ways I have to agree with the OP. Wait, wait...don't draw down on me yet.

I have visited some of the other forums and all the posts about hostility at the other forums are correct. This forum is the best, hands down! :hurry: BUT...I don't think the OP was indicating in any way that this forum was becoming like those. I haven't been here for years like some, but rather just a few months (although I think I'm about to hit Senior Member) and everyone has been really friendly to me 95% of the time. ;-) But there have been times when I saw that people were trying to share and learn and because their mistakes were kind of a rookie mistake (like I would make), they got hammered! More often than not, the moderators will step in and ask folks to keep it civil. That's something to be commended and is the very action that keeps this board better than the others.

I've made some good forum friends on this board! I look forward to meeting a lot of them at the next forum day. So, I've just learned to pay attention to those that I've come to trust and ignore the less than friendly words (or the implied eyerolling and sighing). I'd really miss this forum if it weren't around, so I'll do my best to be friendly and make it a place where people want to post, share and ask questions.

The goal of Charles and the Mods is to make this a family friendly and cordial place to discuss and learn about concealed carry and the shooting sports. We try very hard to keep the it that way, and our fantastic members help by following the guidelines and being good forum citizens. I personally feel very blessed to be a member and a Mod here because of all of our members and the wonderful friends I have made being here. Not to brag, but I really feel everyone here makes this the best Internet forum out there, bar none! :thumbs2:
Keith, we all owe you, Charles, and all the Mods a debt of gratitude for all your hard work to keep this forum both vibrant and civil. Your efforts have created a place where folks with questions we all had at one time or another can benefit from the shared knowledge from other members without having to suffer through the same experiences, many of which came at the cost of embarrassment or worse. (After all, experience is what you get when you don't get what you want.)

I fully support the mods' efforts to refer folks with questions that are new to them but have been heavily discussed in the past to those resources so they can quickly catch up with the group's collective knowledge and come back with questions or opinions that further advance the topic. I also agree that at times we may become so impassioned on some subjects that we may hurt others' feelings when there is no intention to do so, and I try to keep this in mind when I post. I am not without fault here, and am admittedly more successful at some times than at others.

In my opinion, this is the best run and most productive concealed carry forum on the internet, and that's what keeps me coming back to it daily. I constantly pick up things I can use (and reminders of things I've forgotten - a need that wasn't as great when I was still 25) from our other members, and I very much enjoy discussing options and approaches to situations that have no perfect answers. These exchanges help me find gaps and flaws in my own ideas, and cause me to constantly rethink my own positions. I believe that a position that holds up only when it's not exposed to challenge isn't worth a whole heck of a lot, and I truly value the opportunity to share my thoughts and refine them through the wisdom of others without having to wade through the offensive remarks and personal attacks so common on other discussion boards.

Keep up the great work, and know that it is deeply appreciated!

There are some negative effects to this forum...
...It makes me want to go out and buy all the cool guns and accessories that I see when people post their pictures .

I'm also new to the forum and find it a very welcoming and informative community. As a new CHL and someone that has not been involved with guns or gun issues for a long time, coming here is a bit like drinking from a firehose. I'm learning lots of new and useful information, but I also know that plenty is not sticking the first time around. I know that when someone posts a new question or a new comment on an existing thread and I go "oh yeah, I remember reading that before". Repetition is essential for learning - keep it up.

On the subject of searching: I certainly use the search feature, but sometimes I either get a huge flood (using "Topics" on Advanced Search often helps) or I just can't find what I'm looking for. The long time forum members seem to be more successful - I assume its because they "know" its there and don't give up or they remember some keyword that helps them narrow the search. My experience with other forums has show that my searches get better with time.

I really appreciate the friendly and welcoming nature of this forum. I think the fact that there are a high number of regular posters here is indicative of that. I checked out several forums before choosing to frequent this one, and found that they seemed to only have about eight or so regular posters who were typically in a profane argument over something trivial. This place is much better.
As a new CHL holder, I have learned a great deal here. Thanks to all!
