SOLD - S&W Pre-Model 38/32 (Terrier) Revolver

Post by randomoutburst »

SOLD
Originally posted as a Model 36. Thanks to a knowledgeable forum member I have determined that the owner and myself failed to accurately identify the model. This is a S&W Terrier (Pre-model 32) NOT a S&W 36.

Story about the gun is after the photos if you're interested...for now, just the specs:
  • Smith & Wesson Terrier (Pre-Model 38/32)
  • .38 S&W, NOT .38 Special
  • I frame (predecessor to J frame)
  • Serial 712XX (Produced before 1957)
  • No model number in crane
  • Original S&W diamond wood grips in excellent condition
  • Five screw side plate
  • Pinned barrel
  • Serrated sight ramp, low profile rear sights
  • Round butt
The gun has small surface scratches on the cylinder and a deeper scratch about 1/4 inch long on the top left side of the barrel (both as indicated below, the scratch with a red circle as it would not photograph at all and the cylinder scratches didn't photograph well either).

I tried to clean it but there wasn't anything to clean! The bluing is in good shape aside from the blemishes mentioned above and I suspect it was either never fired or fired a few times and cleaned well after use.
Trigger pull is great (fired with snap caps) and the cylinder is TIGHT. Doesn't move forward/backward and barely a wiggle side to side.

More photos or full resolution versions of these photos available upon request - email kristencolv [at] yahoo [dot] com.

Would like a face-to-face meeting with a Texas resident (TX DL required) and bill of sale for both parties will be provided.
Asking $500 OBO, don't hesitate to toss an offer on the table!

Close-up of serial number (last two numbers omitted)

Blemishes on cylinder (not bad, but worth mentioning)

Red circle shows approximate location (but not size) of the deeper scratch. Approx. 1/4 in long in center of circle.

This is a .38 S&W and you CANNOT fire .38 special with this revolver

So, the story for those who are interested:

My husband and I are friends with another couple who are 20 years our seniors...not saying much since we've both just barely passed the two decade mark. The wife called us knowing we have a bit of gun knowledge and explained that her husband (who started a business selling items from estate sales) had come across a small snub revolver when sorting items from an estate and did not know what to do with it.

The husband is mildly anti-gun (doesn't want them in his home but does not object to other citizens owning them) and they have two small children in the home with no means of securing the gun. We offered to take it to our home and keep it in our safe so they don't have to worry about their children coming across it. We met today for lunch so we could transfer the gun into our guardianship and had quite a great time. The wife expressed interest in shooting with us and they both asked many questions about gun laws in general and as they relate to CHLs, etc. The husband then said he would like to sell the gun but does not have much knowledge in the area of firearms and would prefer if someone more knowledgeable handled the sale.

So, here we are trying to sell this nice little piece. We would love to purchase it ourselves but just moved to a new city, purchased a new gun and new gun safe, and are also about to have to buy books for our classes this semester. We aren't in a position to be spending more money at the moment so we're hoping to find this guy a good home. The husband suggested a price of $500 but is open to offers...so fire away!

Replied.

ALL MEMBERS PLEASE NOTE - I misidentified and posted this handgun as a Model 36 but it is, in fact, a Pre-Model 38/32 Terrier. My apologies.
