I wish man, I wish.

Gotta fill in for some lazy co-workers this weekend, and next weekend going to the Big D for a Bachelor Party.

Can't do it today. Sick kids. Possibly tomorrow. If I can get away I'd like to at least go watch an IDPA match some time, see what all the fuss is about.

I went to Red's a few weeks back. Put 100 rounds of fmj's :fire and 100 rounds of jhp's through my Glock 22. :fire

I wanted to make sure the jhp's would feed properly, absolutely no issues.

Life was good... :lol::

Probably be another month before I can go again. :grumble

Hey guys, come on out tomorrow. Just got an email that the match is on.

If you have never watched or shot in an IDPA match you will find it is SOOOO!!! much more fun that standing flat footed slow firing at a stationary bullseye. I strongly urge you to come on out. We can get on the same squad and you will have a LOT of FUN.

I know some may want to just go to watch, but bring your gear because if you are like me, who did that, you will regret not joining in after by the time the first shooter finishes the first stage.

All you really need to start is:
eye and ear protection
something to shoot 9mm or 38special or larger
waist/belt holster---paddle, IWB, OWB whatever. NO crossdraw, shoulder rigs, small of back, or thigh rigs
100-150 rounds of ammo depending on how accurately you shoot--more is always better.
$25
total of 3 magazines or speedloaders
willingness to be safe
willingness to have fun
a vest or jacket or untucked shirt as a concealment garment...shouldn't be a problem tomorrow.

I'll be there so come find me, my name is Carl. I am a grey headded guy with glasses and a moustache about 6-1 who really needs to work out more. Just ask anyone with the sign in sheet or squad list. I would love to squad with you and answer any questions that may come up.

I'll get there about 9:30, you do the same so you have time to attend the new shooters meeting(orientation) so you know more of what to expect and what is expected of you.

No foolin', you will have a good time. Bring your stuff.

A couple of quick questions:

- where can I find eye protection that works over glasses or are glasses sufficient?
- where can I find a holster this time at night? It sounds like my SmartCarry isn't legal for this

Regular glasses are fine.

Smartcarry won't work for IDPA.

The reason for the rules on the holsters mainly is a safety thing...for the shooter and others. Because of the fact that there are other shooters around, as well as a Safety Officer and ScoreKeeper in close proximity behind, the shooter is essentially pointing a loaded firearm at others with a shoulder holster or small of back holster. With a crossdraw, Smartcarry and some others, the shooters often 'sweeps' his own body with the muzzle of a loaded firearm...also a safety issue in a competition scenerio. As for thigh rigs, they are just outside the scope of IDPA which generally tries to use scenerios simulate potential concealed carry situations. Obviously, a thigh rig doesn't work for that...IPSC matches perhaps but not IDPA.

You might be able to find an inexpensive paddle (Fobus, perhaps) or other inexpensive holster at someplace like
Academy or Cabela's. Ooops, just looked at the clock, and they might not be open now. I do not recall their hours of operation.

If you don't have ANY belt-type holster but would like to come watch, you are still welcome. I would be happy to have you shadow me and you will save the $25. Just promise not to make too much fun of me when I mess up. Seriously, I would be happy to have you come out for a while or stay the whole match, whatever works for you. We start shooting at about 10A and usually finish around 1P+/-.

GREAT!! I didn't even think of Red's.

The Texas Tactical ( http://www.texastactical.net" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ) and Austin Rifle Club site both have maps if you need directions.

Sorry you are not feeling well. I hope that gets better quickly.

As a conslation, congratulations on getting your Comp-tac.

To keep posted on the Texas Tactical shoots, you can sign up on their website ( http://www.texastactical.net" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; )and they will send you emails notices and they NEVER spam you or otherwise misuse your info. There is a lot of other information there too. They also hold matches at Cedar Ridge Range which is west of New Braunfels...actually in Bulverde. It is an easy drive from Austin. Is a nice range and draws a pretty good crowd of San Antonio shooters. They are a very good group and Mike Webb runs interesting and SAFE matches. They also have a Carbine match once a month...also fun.
