1st Traffic Stop Since CHL
1st Traffic Stop Since CHL
Happened last night on the way home in the Austin area through the back roads of Lampasas county. I was going about 60-61mph per the speedometer in a 55 when I passed a Lampasa County Sheriffs Deputy. He lit up. I pulled over, turned on the map light, had the DL, CHL and Insurance in hand (on the wheel) when he walked up. I handed him all three and mentioned that I did have a concealed handgun in the vehicle. He didn't ask where it was, only if I knew what the speed limit was. I replied the last sign I saw was 55 and I was going a little over that. He said he clocked me at 64, I said I thought I was going about 60, but had just put new tires on the truck and they were a little larger than before so my speedometer was probably off. He said that will do it. He asked if I still lived at my DL address and if that was where I was headed. I replied yes and yes . He gave me a friendly reminder to watch the speed and have a safe trip home. No citation! I was admittedly a little nervous, but he was very polite and professional. Of course I deserved the ticket, but hey, if he wants to cut me some slack, I'll take the gift!

That sounds like a very positive experience and it sounds like you did everything exactly right. Honesty is the best policy...
In my past life (Pre-marriage) I neglected my vehicle registration....every year for at least a few months. I was finally pulled over by the Galveston PD and he asked me why I had not replaced them...I told him I was lazy and deserved the ticket...he smiled, tapped on the expired ticket and got back into his patrol car. I took care of the tags on the next business day!

on a different note. see my other post about getting pulled over this weekend too. I'm slightly older and wiser now so it went better then my past times of getting pulled over.

it was the attitude of both you and the LEO!....well handled...the CHL just told him...you're one of the good guys.GrillKing wrote:Yes, I was lucky. However the important part for me was the attitude of the deputy. The concealed handgun was not an issue. I would have rated the experience (nearly) the same even if I had been cited. Traffic stop, weapon not relevent, slow down, have a nice day!
