I didn't want to hijack the 'cuffed and stuffed' thread, so I started a new one. This quote was taken from that thread...

Just one, little question...why? Does anyone know? Do the RKBA orgs. only work on legislative processes and ignore the proverbial little guy? I understood them to be organizations that help the "Tom, Dick, and Harry" Citizens as well, but I have yet to see that in ANY incident.

Are our dues just going to the organizations for them to lobby Washington / Austin?

I'm just looking for a better understanding on what can be expected from these organizations.

The NRA represents many individuals directly, while many others are financially supported by the NRA Civil Rights Defense Fund. http://www.nradefensefund.org/ Additionally, the CRDF and NRA also support legal research and funding of cases like Heller and McDonald. TSRA does not support cases on the level possible for the NRA or the CRDF because we don't have the financial resources. We do provide assistance to individuals when possible. Neither organization can get involved in every case, there simply isn't enough time or money to do so. As a general statement with exceptions, both organizations try to get involved with cases that will have an impact on more people than just those directly involved in the case.

Thanks so much for the reply! Makes complete sense (especially about the helping one to help many goal).

I also never knew the CRDF existed. I knew of the NRA and NRA-ILA. There are so many facets to the NRA, it's a learning process to figure them all out!

As much as I would like to see more, I have to agree with the position Charles just stated.

Given the limited number of resources available, I would prefer the NRA and TSRA get involved in cases that will set precedent and help us all. I would love for them to help overturn any case with injustice in the gun area, I don't see how it is feasible.

I did not know that the NRA had a separate Civil rights Defense Fund. I would donate to this fund on a dedicated basis, especially if they could just help maintain a registry of lawyers that were experienced and willing to work in this area. Charles has been pretty good for us in that area, but not every state has a Charles to work with.
