The article is largely given over to letting business opponents express their views, with a couple counter-quotes from the NRA.Gov. Mitch Daniels added his signature this week to a controversial measure prohibiting Indiana employers from banning guns in their parking lots.
The new law is scheduled to take effect July 1, but the debate over House Enrolled Act 1065 is likely to continue.
...''Another issue, Raymond said, is the process the legislature used to exempt schools, prisons, child-care centers, investor-owned utilities, and certain chemical and nuclear facilities from the rules.
Daniels acknowledged the law "does contain ambiguities that the General Assembly may wish to refine at some future date, to avoid unnecessary litigation, but the understandable concerns raised against the bill do not suffice to justify a trespass on a fundamental right so expressly protected by our founding documents."
Interestingly, at the bottom of the web page appears this text: "The Tribune is not automatically publishing Web comments on this article. If you wish to comment, send an e-mail to comments@sbtinfo.com." I checked some other articles -- the kid who won the spelling bee, a feed-the-hungry fund drive, a good-news story about some dogs had comment forums. Stories on home invasion, alleged child molestation, two teens stabbing each other, and a KKK leader excused from jury duty had the "not automatically publishing" statement. Had not seen that before on a newspaper site.
