glock mags....not pleased
anyone else have problems with their glock mags not feeding correctly?
2 out of 3 i brought to the range had this problem. after a shot, the slide would lock open and had to be manually released to chamber another round.
mags are a few years old and had been sitting, loaded, for about a year. am i doing something wrong? do i already need new mags?

I bought my wife a new glock 19 2 weeks ago, went to the range with it, and after the first shot, the empty ejected, but the new round did not feed all the way in.
it took us shooting about 40 rounds through each magazine before it stopped having issues.
After that, she has shot probably 150 rounds and no issues.

My wife's G19 did not suffer any magazine related failures (or any other kind of failures, for that matter), but it was a while before you could get 15 rounds into the magazine without breaking a bone in one of your fingers. Even with the provided magazine loader, it was a royal pain. Now that the gun is broken in, loading the mags is a non-issue.

this is the one that I use, and no problems loading at all (just have to put the first round in without the loader)

Re: glock mags....not pleased
I've always heard that if a Glock is going to have problems, it will typically be the magazine causing it. That said, I've never had any issues with any Glocks that I've fired. I recommend another range trip with those mags to make sure that you aren't accidentally pushing up on the slide stop. If the issue does end up being the magazines, I'd see if Glock will replace them for you.

my carry mag is the only one that didnt fail, so thats a little comforting i guess.
thanks for all replies

I was having a similar problem a while back with slide locking back when it shouldn't. Finally diagnosed it to my grip thumb pressing against the magazine catch because of a tweak I'd made to my grip.
But you should also check the mag springs and follower. If this only happens with some mags and never with others, one of those two items is likely the culprit. Should be able to replace the spring and follower for about $5-$10 per mag, instead of $30 for a whole new mag.

I know it is not the same thing, but I just got a couple of new magazines for my H&K usp .40 and they were super tight. They are factory poly mags and they fed okay, but took some real effort to reload, very similar to what TAM described. After a few cycles, they seemed to become normal. Maybe try using them at the range a couple more times. I don't have any Glock experience, but I see one in my near future.

well my friend shot the gun too, so i dont think it was grip related. but it happened to her alot more than me.austinrealtor wrote:I was having a similar problem a while back with slide locking back when it shouldn't. if it is the mag springs, ive very dissapointed in their quality, or should i say lack of quality.
but i shoot sigs at work and have the same problem. great guns, but mags fail sometimes.
that being said, youre only as strong as your weakest link.

My experience as well with multiple sizes and platforms of glock handguns. They are still holding up after being dropped, beaten, and loaded a bunch. The Annoyed Man wrote:My wife's G19 did not suffer any magazine related failures (or any other kind of failures, for that matter), but it was a while before you could get 15 rounds into the magazine without breaking a bone in one of your fingers. Re: glock mags....not pleased
I've probably got a few thousand rounds through both of mine. I have 3 small mags for the baby and 7-9 15 rounders. I haven't had any problems with FTF or slide staying open. The only problem I've seen is with one or two mags where the slide will not remain open after the last round. This turned out to be something slightly misshaped at the top of the mag. I tossed those mags years ago.

I've heard of problems with some of the KCI or other aftermarket immitation "Glock" mags, but I never had trouble with any Glock factory mag.

Re: glock mags....not pleased
This is strange on new Glock-brand mags. I've never heard of this problem with fairly new mags. Over time, they wear out (or at least the spring and follower do) but I've had a pair of original 10-round G23 mags (post-ban) since I bought my gun in 1998 and I'm just now replacing those springs.
Re: glock mags....not pleased
i bought 2 of my four mags after i got my glock.....the other 2 came with the gun NIB. i cant remember where i got them but maybe thats the problem. although they look exactly the same as my original mags.RPB wrote:I've heard of problems with some of the KCI or other aftermarket immitation "Glock" mags, but I never had trouble with any Glock factory mag.
Re: glock mags....not pleased
the 2 mags that came with my wifes Glock 19 both jammed until we ran about 50 or so through each. Then not a problem
