The problem is that there are no Texas laws against minors in bars, accompanied or otherwise. If they are accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, they are even allowed to legally drink. The only place Texas bars minors due to alcohol is in a liquor store (off premises consumption sale of liquor, not just beer and wine).

We stop minors (under 18) from working in some, but they are allowed in there for music or whatever. It used to be a tradition in parts of Texas for the family to go to some dance halls, with the kids listening to the music and dancing while the parents added drinking to the mix. The Farmer's Daughter in San Antonio comes to mind as one example of the tradition.

Sign = RED its 51%
Sign = BLUE you're good to go
Regardless, the entire facility shouldn't benposted I wouldn't think, just the bar.
I think a polite call to TABC might be in order to see what they have the 51% sign assigned to. Surely it's just the bar.

Just because they have the 51% sign up does NOT mean that they are 51%. It seems the 51% sign is easy to come by (Jarreds in San Antonio is posted 51%...yes that Jarreds the jewelry store) so just because you see a 51% sign does not mean that its a 51% business. You still need to check the actual license.

:evil2: Hello? TABC? There's a "bowling alley-slash-bar" who either 1) has the wrong signs up in the wrong locations, or 2) is allowing minors to be working in the bar area, (setting pins, renting shoes etc?) could you investigate and fix it please? :woohoo

You won't need to state anything other than to tell TABC that they have a 51% sign up and they are actually a BLUE location, not RED. TABC will contact the proprietor and have them remove the sign and make sure they have the blue unlicensed possession signs up as appropriate.

I contacted TABC and received a reply today:
it states "This location has a food and beverage certificate which qualifies them for a blue sign. After review, I noted that they do not have a diagram so the entire building at 318 W. Bay Area Blvd should be covered under the mixed beverage permit. This means they should have a blue sign posted at or near each entrance. A TABC employee will visit the location to ensure compliance. "
Thanks for all the suggestions to get this "wrong" - "righted"

TABC went into bowling center either Wednesday or Thursday, cited them for the incorrect signage, made them post, viewable, their license and made them put up the blue "unlicensed possession" signs.
The TABC agent told him that "someone called" and since someone called, he had to investigate and had to issue a citation if there was a true issue. He couldn't just give them the new signs and walk out.
The manager said that the citation was a "big deal" as well, even though it was just a sign issue.

So I go in there last night and notice on the door to the bar, that they have the blue sign, in middle of the door, and I'm thinking 'great, they finally got it changed', so I looked to the left, about 2 feet and what do I see, the 51% signs STILL THERE! :banghead:

Today I go in there, and both signs are still up. So I grab the manager (the old one is now gone about a month) and I walk him towards the bar and say "I like the new sign, but I am confused" and right then, he sees the 51% sign up as well and puts his head in his hand, and could not believe it "rlol"

He has one of his employees who is just then walking out of the bar pull the sign down, toss it in the trash.

So he and I talk for about 2 minutes after that, he stated that he has been in restaurant management for a number of years and he was not aware of the blue sign at all. That he was always taught that in ANY restaurant that sells alcohol that they must have the 51% sign, so I could not let that go and had to teach him a bit about the law. And obviously since TABC was already there and cited them for the issue, he could not disregard what I told him as TABC had just, by telling him to change the signs, essentially told him the same thing.

Anyway, a good outcome (I think anyway) to a "wrong" and +1 for the good guys

Just as an aside, these sorts of things always make me wonder what goes on inside a person's mind. One would think that understanding the law would be a fairly important issue for a manager of a restaurant that has a liquor license and that, at a minimum, he would have questioned what exactly the 51% meant. It's not like it's part of the small print that no one sees or reads.
