Going to las Vegas, does Nevada recognize Texas? Also Nevada is an open carry State, is that only for Residents? And If I can carry, can I bring it to a Casino?

Sorry Mark, Nevada DOES NOT recognize Texas CHL's as we do not have a reciprocity agreement with them. See the map:

DANG! I carried all the way across Nevada last summer. . I guess I'm a non-intentional scofflaw? We pretty much stayed in the truck and RV and didn't go into any honky-tonks, casinos or brothels, if that counts?

I did stow the CCW as we left north out of Reno before we got to the CA Fruit Police road block.

Now comes the question: why does Texas honor NV's CHL's if NV doesn't honor TX CHL's?

I was thinking the same thing O.G. The only thing I come up with is that Texas does issue CHL's to 18 year old's(under the right circumstances of course).

It may be that if you qualify with a revolver in Nv. you can carry all types of revolver. You need to qualify with all semi autos that you will carry and if you buy a new semi that is not on your license you must qualify with it to add to your list. you don't want to get caught carrying a semi that is not listed on you license. I personally have a Nv. CCW.

First post on this site, thought I might be able to clarify. I am a current resident of CA (no jokes please) and currently hold two non resident CCWs for UT and NV. I thought my UT permit was good for NV as my wife and I go there several times a year. However while waiting for my UT permit, NV revised their CCW laws as a lot of states do not have a shooting requirement. So the next trip there, I took a CCW class at the The Gun Store, which a couple posts up states you can do machine gun rentals there.

I got my NV CCW about 5 weeks later. Now carry laws in NV are a little different. Yes, NV is an open carry state, however it is HIGHLY frowned on up on the Strip. You will probably get proned out by LV Metro. And in 115 heat, that won't be fun. Lost of larger casinos have a no weapons policy, but concealed is concealed. If they catch you they will ask you to either put the gun in your room (if a guest), ask that you secure in the hotel safe, or ask you to leave. If you refuse then it is trespassing and they call Metro. Some casinos have a sign, some don't. Just use your best judgment. also, NV's laws regarding drinking and carrying are the same for DUI, .08% I believe. Also stay out of North Las Vegas and Boulder City, they have anti carry laws. If you go out to the other areas of NV, people open carry all over the place. I went to a supermarket in Henderson and 3/4 of folks were open carrying.

As a side note I am moving to TX in a couple months and I can't wait to live in a free state. I know my UT permit is good there, and will apply for my Texas permit after my residency requirements are met

I love me some Thompson. Had four in my armory in the Navy and used to enjoy running rounds through them whenever I got the chance.

It's possible to get a non-resident NV license? I could have sworn last time I read up on it that you have to live there to get one...

I believe it is, but I think you have to go to NV to take the class and apply for the license.
