Gun Shop's 4473 Call In ?

Post by texjames »

I know when we get our plastic and ya go into a gun shop to buy a gun they don't have to call in.
But when they do call in, who are they calling and what kind of info can they get from such a brief call?
I have heard them on the phone and sounds like they give your name, DOB, Drivers lic nuumber etc.
Anybody know whats going on there? Thanks!

They are calling in your name, DOB, Gender, Race, Type of firearm, ID number/Type, SSN (optional) and anything else they ask for. The who would be the FBI. The info they get from the FBI is either Proceed, Delay, or Deny and absolutely nothing else.

Edit to add: I forgot to add that the FBI also gives them a transaction number for the NICS check.
How do you explain a dog named Sauer without first telling the story of a Puppy named Sig?
