I know that the XD full sized mags, with finger extensions, can be used in the Compact sized XD pistols. I believe the same is true for M&P45s, but my guess is that there is not as large an aftermarket yet for either pistol to give you such a broad array of magazine choices. But that said, if I need 20-30 rounds in one magazine, that's what the AR15 leaning in the corner by my bed is for. High cap magazines for a pistol are fine; but in my humble opinion, "ultra" capacity magazines just don't make for good concealed carry. If you actually have need of a 20 or 30 round magazine in a self defense scenario, you have bigger problems than what brand of pistol you're carrying, and it is time to go to the long gun.RPB wrote:Although I can carry 10 standard/12 (plus 2 extension) /13 (plus 3 extension) in my Glock 26, I usually carry 15+1 (Glock 19 mag)or 17+1 or 18+1 (Glock 19 mag with +2 or +3 extension from Pearce) in my Glock 26, but 20+1 at home in my Glock 26 (Glock 17 mag with +3 extension from Pearce).... of course I keep a 33 round mag in the car for anti-gang activity and house also, for multiple armed home invaders (from Glock 18) in my Glock 26
I also have 19 round mags, and numbers to fill in the gaps, but I carry them less often ...
Do the others have options such as that?
I mean aftermarket mag extensions etc which you can get for a Glock?
Just curious.
I owned 8 Glock 17s, sold them, owned several 19s, kept 1 and sold the rest, I really really like the options on the baby Glocks... so your mileage may vary, but I'd get compact, just for the options.
The XD and S&W etc are all fine machines too though.

Re: Glock 21 - Anyone own one?
I have a Glock 21. Mine is one of the first ones I think, about 20 yrs old I think. Me and 2 of my friends bought them at the same time and we all had feeding problems. The other guys just got rid of theirs but I kept mine after 2 trips back to the factory. Part of me wanted to get rid of it but it has worked well since it came back the last time. It seems to be fixed although I still can't say I really trust it. I am more accurate with it than anything else I own so it's fun at the range. In fairness to Glock I'm convinced the new ones are better, everyone seems to love them. I wouldn't carry one, I'm just scared to carry a gun with no safety or decocker. I know that's just me.

I have a Glock 21SF that I like, but rarely carry; it's big. I also have a 10mm upper that slides right on that I carry in a thigh rig while hunting. I like the versatility and reliability of the Glocks. I don't own a Glock 30 yet but do have a Glock 29 in 10mm that I carry occasionally. These days my my Kahr PM45, Kimber Ultra Carry or Dan Wesson CBOB see the most carry time.

Thanks to TAM, I've handled the XD...I would seriously consider that for a .45.

I would choose the XD for the option of the grip safety and optional thumb safety. I like the idea of having both. The M&P would be my last choice just going off of personal preference. I have handled and shot all three mentioned. I like the grip and feel of the XD better than any Glock I have. I own a Glock 30 that is a great gun but not my first choice.
