Open carry or hide um, your choice.

"An armed citizenry is a safe citizenry," he said. "All we do is restrict good guys" with excessive regulations, Pearce said."

Yep. I carried open everywhere except the Grand Canyon. That was before the law changed.

For those who didn't click the link, here's the important part: unlicensed concealed carry, like Vermont and Alaska.

PHOENIX - Arizona is just a few steps away from dropping most restrictions on carrying a concealed weapon.

HB 2347, given preliminary House approval Thursday, removes all the criminal penalties that now exist for having a weapon in a purse, under a jacket or tucked into a boot without having a state-issued permit. That permit requires certain training and a background check.

Identical legislation already has been approved by the Senate. That leaves only a final roll call by each chamber to send it to Gov. Jan Brewer.

Gubernatorial spokesman Paul Senseman said Thursday he could not commit on whether Brewer would sign the measure, but confirmed that aides to the governor consulted with Sen. Russell Pearce, R-Mesa, the bill's author, and got him to make changes to make it more acceptable to her.

"As a strong supporter of Second Amendment rights, Governor Brewer is very interested in responsible weapon legislation to protect the constitutional rights of our citizens," Senseman said.

Her signature would make Arizona only the third state in the nation to let all of its adult residents have concealed weapons, along with Vermont and Alaska.

Wow, I'm impressed this is so close to passage.

After splitting from my wife, I'm looking at a change of scenery, and I might just head back to AZ in a few years; I miss it there almost as much as I miss California, and certain things about California just aren't acceptable as you can guess.

It passed and has been sent to the Governor for her signature. I remarked to my wife last night "It's amazing, Arizona is loosening their gun restrictions and California keeps tightening theirs. Such strange neighbors."

Maybe California is one of the reasons behind Arizona's loosening of restrictions.....

All guns have at least two safeties. One's digital, one's cognitive. In other words - keep the digit off the trigger until ready to fire, and THINK. Some guns also have mechanical safeties on top of those. But if the first two don't work, the mechanical ones aren't guaranteed. - me

I'm in pheonix right now and the local news station covered a story of the bill. They said it goes to the govs. Desk Monday for a signature.
