SIA's AK-47 disarming son busts a self defense move on Dad.

Post by surprise_i'm_armed »

For those of you that have been on the forum for a while,
you may remember that on 6/6/09 my son, who lives in
SE Austin, thwarted a robbery by grabbing an AK-47 from
a bad guy. The BG bit him, they punched one another, bit
one another, and the BG removed the AK mag and beat my
son with it. That was after 2 AK rounds were fired into the
lawn since my son had muzzle control.

The BG was able to run away with only the mag. The AK-47 was
turned over to Austin PD when they arrived.

On a recent visit down to Austin to see my boy (27 y.o.), he
showed me how he fought the guy.

We got to talking about knife attacks, and I told him of the old
trick of wrapping your jacket around your arm in order to fend off
the knife blows.

Then he showed me a really cool move. He had me hold a knife
substitute on him. I used a Craftsman magnetic screwdriver handle,
without any screwdriver bits inserted.

I held it on him, as if I was about to thrust at him. I expected him to
rush me, then sweep the "knife" up, down, or to one side. No - what he
did is he used both of his hands to punch my wrist, one from each side,
with a sharp punch.

Result - my hand involuntarily opened up and the "knife" went flying
15 feet away from us. Very cool. I'd like to think I'd never have to use
this move, but it was nice to learn of it.

so the AK was an "Assault Weapon" ? Ha, I kid I kid.
Glad your Son made it out all right and kept his wits.

What happens to the AK, be kinda cool if he got to keep it.

Was talking to the wife about signing up for some Self Defense classes to protect us from the Mormons

No, he didn't get to keep it.

Austin PD took it, tried to get fingerprints, but no dice on those.

We set up my son with a Remington 870 pump scattergun, but the bad
guy never came back for revenge. Whooo hoo.
