WTB - S&W 642

Post by John »

I am planning to pick up a 642 and found one at a store in the Houston Area, NIB, for $374.00. Thought i would give people here a chance to offer one up if anyone in the Houston area has one for sale.

I have a question too, about the 642. S&W's web site doesn't have it listed a .38 +P, but i am assuming it is +P rated. Anyone know anything different?

Thank you for reading.

Hey John,

The 642 is rated for +P. Not sure why the Smith site doesn't say so, but my 642-1 clearly states .38 Spl +P on the barrell. (Sorry, mine's not for sale.) But you won't regret the purchase, it's a great firearm. One that you won't want to part with once you get accustomed to it. The only thing you may want to look into once you purchase yours is some aftermarket grips that will give you a better hold on the gun. I never could get used to the pinkey finger just "hanging out" all alone, so some aftermarket grips helped me out greatly. Of course the bigger grips kind of make the 642 a little large for pocket carry, if that's what you're looking for.

Yep, says 38spl +P right on the barrel.

I am scared of empty guns and keep mine loaded at all times. The family knows the guns are loaded and treats them with respect. Loaded guns cause few accidents; empty guns kill people every year. -Elmer Keith. 1961

Thanks JLaw & HighVelocity, I figured it was just an oversite on their web page. This will be for pocket carry. I currently have a Tomcat for that purpose, but I'd like to get a revolver.

The newer ones can take a steady diet of the +P ammo
the older ones, only occasional use

Are you still looking for a 642? I have one, LNIB, w/a leather pocket holster for $345.

Sorry, philbo. I picked one up yesterday from another forum user. I had to take a quick trip down south today and haven't even shown it to the wife. Maybe she'll take a liking to it and want one herself. I'll let you know by Saturday.
