MSNBC POLL: SHOULD TEACHERS CARRY GUNS?
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15142930/?GT1=8618 Look for "Live Vote:What Do You Think?" in the middle of the page.
yep. It's too much to ask for an honest poll, for a realistic result.Liberty wrote:I think they ask the wrong question. They ask if teachers should be provided with weapons. and are getting so far a 2 to 1 vote against. The responses might be more positive if the question were: "Should teachers be allowed to arm themselves."
I don't want to provide firearms, but I think everyone of them that wants to carry should be able to.

I personally think teachers should be allowed to carry at school; however, I thonk they should have training beyond that required for a CHL. As I see it, it is similar to the program allowing airline pilots to carry that was put in place after 9/11. You can't put a cop on every plane or in every classroom, so train the people who are always there to respond.
As a teacher, I believe laws forbidding me to carry are a violation of my rights.
My students' right to a safe learning environment is also violated since that one sheriff's officer can't be all places on campus at once.

The NRA & TSRA are a bargain; they're much cheaper than the cold, dead hands experience.

FOR ME
We need nothing that will delay getting armed teachers and/or parents into schools. A school building is no different than a mall or most any other building. The same with "events". Lifting the restrictions on building and event carry is the cheapest, quickest and, most effective way to get protection inside the schools. If we can carry in a crowded Chuck E. Cheese's or mall then a school should be looked on as no different. If the school wants to provide advanced training that is their decision. Or if the teachers and others want to get the training on their own I say great. I think we need nothing more than simply to lift the restrictions on school and event carry like they have other places. That is just my opinion.
Wisconsin
A state rep in Wisconsin is planning to introduce legilsation that would give teachers the ability to conceal carry. http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=510000

If you want a migrane, check out the comments that readers have made to the article. Unfortunatley, I tried to scroll through them before finishing my first cup of coffee. There are 251 pages of comments and I looked at the first 7 pages.
Only a few sane comments. The majority are from scared sheep, Democrats and Bush haters. It's amazing to see how some people get all tangled up in their thought process because of the things they have come to believe, i.e. the shooter would just take the weapon because the teacher would never have time to unlock the firearm and then retrieve the ammo from it's separate locked container...

I think it's a good idea for teachers that WANT TO carry a concealed handgun and can demonstrate proficiency with that handgun should be able to do so.
But, judging by the attitudes of the faculty at my son's elementary school, I cannot see this happening (at that school).
Anyway, the topic is getting media coverage so at least the idea is being discussed.

I am scared of empty guns and keep mine loaded at all times. The family knows the guns are loaded and treats them with respect. Loaded guns cause few accidents; empty guns kill people every year. -Elmer Keith. 1961
I'm not picking on you, just highliting the earnest comments.GlockenHammer wrote:Hit the poll, folks. 34% say yes to guns in schools. Help them see the light...
Folks internet polls are not about honest results, they are computer games.
Theyt are unly useful because those that take them have an idea of the results before hand. Especially those hot button issues that can be sandbagged by the participants, or taken in a pristeen eniornment.
If one is not aware of that then that's when one becomes the one being played.
Go to the poll click on "Yes", click "vote", close the pop up window.
Now, click "No:, then click back on "Yes", then click vote. Close the popup and repeat until you are tired of it.
Now, if you are a young brainwashed anti-gun that wants the poll going your way, just keep voting no. If you are quick on the mouse and keyboard, you can probably rack up a 100 votes in a very short time.
Sorry, folks. But this is an area where we need to gain some situational awareness, if we are going to play the game. Or we need to gain the platform to expose this tripe for what it is.
Make no mistake it is planned propaganda.
You should have seen the garbage they attempted as a hit piece on guns at one of the local TV stations. Young idiots with no clues about real journalism.

I think it is actually a tough question.
I do agree that the how the question is worded it is easy to say NO.
The problem with armed teahers is the student that shows up packing his arsenal is going to start with the administration since he/she knows who poses the most threat to stopping their attack.
Although I do not know of a viable alternative to arming the administration. There is only one sure way to stop a shooter...Shoot em'!
On one hand it is a good deterrent to anyone if they know they are out gunned, that is basic force protection. On the other hand history has tought us that these are suicide missions and the shooter is making an attempt to take out as many of their "enemies" as they can.
