Kimber Super Carry new line of pistols

Post by KimberII »

I couldn't find much information on Kimber's new Super Carry line of 1911's but I decided to order one anyway. I ordered the Super Carry Pro and just picked it up from my local FFL today. I can't begin to tell you how awesome it is. Of course, I am already a Kimber fan but this gun is the ultimate carry weapon in every way. The fit finish is incredible and the feel of the gun in your hand is great. This is due primarily to the "bob tail" handle and laminated grips. I am 6'3" and have larger hands so the larger handle fits my hands much better than the Ultra size and the "printing" when carrying is significantly reduced because there is no "point" at the back of the handle to protrude out. It is built in Kimbers custom shop and has all the standard features plus ambi safety, tritium nite sites with cocking shoulder, carry melt, super carry serrations on slide/frame/flat top (more comfortable than checkering), High cut under trigger guard, Rounded mainspring housing and frame, aluminum frame and Micarta/laminated wood grips. Lastly, these models DO NOT have the Schwartz safety, which has caused some issues in the past with some shooters once it breaks, but I haven't ever had this happen o me. I was originally going to get the the Ultra size but the Pro was so concealable with the rounded "bob tail" handle that I was lucky I ordered the Pro. In addition, it is more comfortable than many pistols I have carried of the same size. I carried a Glock 23 for many years and in my opinion the Super Carry is much more comfortable to carry. And as a weight comparison the Super Carry Pro unloaded is 28oz. where the Glock 23 is only 21.5oz, but once they are both loaded I would imagine they weigh about the same. I will take her to the range this weekend and post a follow up then but if it shoots like it looks and feels this will be my new favorite carry gun. Please let me know if anyone else already has one of these and what they think of them. Sorry if there is already a thread out there on these but I did a search and didn't find anything.

Thanks Medicman218. I was checking them out on the Kimber site and looking at prices on GunBroker. Looks like most folks are trying to get the retail price of $1529, which doesn't surprise me for a new gun. They sure are sweet looking.

Congrats. I'm a Kimber fan now also after I bought a CDP Pro. I've never shot better and I've shot XDs,Glocks,Sigs,Rugers and Smiths. This one just shoots better everytime. All the guns are great ones but for me it's the Kimber. It's probably the single action 1911 design. I love it enough that I bought a minature 1911 also. I bought the Sig P238.I own a LCP and the Sig in 380. The two guns are night and day different. Again it's the 1911 that I'm better with.

Kimber makes a good gun for the money. Unfortunately they control their supply pretty heavily so they usually bring close to retail on the newer models unless they mistakenly release too many in the market. Every kimber I have sold has been pre-order pre-pay. Seems to be the nature of the beast. Also, keep in mind that for a few hundred more, if you are paying Kimber retail, you can get into a Wilson or Les Baer and REALLY get a nice gun!

Sorry I didn't post pic's, didn't have time but will do so soon. But I have been carrying it all day and it is super comfortable. Secure- I just don't believe that you can get all these upgrades on a Wilson for close to the same price and Les Baer, well enough said. If so, I agree, they would make great alternatives but I apparently have been looking in the wrong places. Seriously, no kidding, please let me know if you are finding Wilson's and Les Baers with these options for sub $2,000 range.

As to where to buy and a good FFL here you go. And let me say I called everywhere for the best deal on the gun and FFL transaction price. So here's the deal. The cheapest price was Able Ammo, BUT, if you live in TX then you have to pay sales tax PLUS they don't have any in stock, just like anyone else. I believe Kimber does control there releases and think that the larger dealers that will commit earlier and to higher quantities are allowed to place order sooner than others. So...the best deal when I bough mine last Wednesday, 6/2, was Top Gun Supply. Their price was $1,329.95 + $18.00 for priority shipping, no tax. Unfortunately they are now out of the Custom and Pro but they do still have the Ultra's in stock as of right now. Their website is real time, unlike others, so if it shows available on their website, IT IS AVAILABLE, order it right then. As for the FFL, I used "It Goes Bang". Adon (owner) is more than fair at $25 for non-CHL and $15 for CHL and works out of his home so he has more flexible hours to pick up your firearms than most gun shops. He is located in Arlington, TX if you are near there, and Top Gun already has his FFL cert on file. Again, sorry for no pics but will do so in next day or so. Can't wait to go shooting on Saturday.

I haven't shot one, but I did get the opportunity to handle one at the exhibit hall at the NRA Annual Meeting week. I was very impressed and there could be one on my side in the future.
