I realize this is the June waiting area - but I'm guessing this "topic" is far more current and has more individuals following the thread. I completed the online application and then took my CHL class in April. I sent in the completed paperwork packet the first week of May from Central Texas so that information should have been received in Austin by the end of first week (approximately May 7 ) . I am still showing as of today 7/05/10 the status of Fingerprints - Pending and Background - Pending and of course - Manufacture - Pending. This is going into the 8th or 9th week at this point since the paperwork should have been in Austin.
The new online access seems to provide far less information that appears to have been available to users in the past - there are no references to dates online or specifics regarding what is pending - simply the very basic generic information. Is there another site where I can use my PIN - the site I keep getting forwarded to (no matter what link I use) is the one that simply wants my DL# , SS#, and DOB -- and then provides me only the most basic of status information. Is there anyone else out there that has been waiting since early May for completion of approval of their CHL? I realize that the FBI was down for a week or so handling Census Worker background checks and expected some delay as a result, but it seems that I've seen many people posting to this site that sent in their paperwork (or even took their class) well after I sent mine in and their status has been updated to indicate receipt of their "plastic"... Is there a way to login to a different site using my PIN that would give me more specific information or has that "feature" gone away? Does anyone have any thoughts? I had gotten a DWI and a subsequent DWLS (didn't realize I had to apply for license reinstatement after the 60-90 day auto-suspension) - the DWI was around 1990 and the DWLS was around 1991 -- both of these issues were reported on the application and I provided a letter from Travis County regarding the status of this history. I had spoken with someone at the DPS about this and they didn't even seem to think I needed any supporting documentation because the cases were 20 years old -- but I sent the paperwork in with the application anyway...
Any thoughts or ideas? I'm just wondering if I should look for information / solutions / etc.... or just relax and let the wait run it's course (which I'm guessing is really all I can do anyway)...
I don't gamble much because I've found that in my life... if it's left to luck.... it ain't gonna turn out well....
Thanks in advance for the other member's insight... !

Re: Early May Application
Tim, I believe there are still a few people on this forum that applied in early May that are still waiting.... it is a pain in the backside.
If you are curious, to the point that you want to ask someone at DPS, you can email them at chl@txdps.state.tx.us or call them at 1-800-224-5744.
It does not hurt to call or email, I find a detailed email was much better for me, when I checked when I was getting my license, as compared to over the phone:
Just give them the details
Full Name
SSN
DL
DOB
and as specific question(s) without writing a novel.
I got back not fully direct answers, but enough to satisfy my questions (after 1 reply and response).
Good Luck

Re: Early May Application
I'm another still waiting and the 1800 number is not help. They simply read to you what the status page says. I have sent an email asking for a detailed status or a supervisors contact information, as my process has been longer than most others. Good luck, dude.

Re: Early May Application
You're just going to have to wait it out...Any thoughts or ideas?
I'm in the same boat. DPS received my packet on 28 Apr.
From what I can find of the state statute, they apparently have 30 days in which to begin the mandated background checks from the time they receive a "completed" application, and 60 days to complete the background check once they begin, barring they don't find anything that requires further investigation. So 90 days total barring everything is in order.
Apparently, it doesn't matter when the application physically arrives at DPS, as the statute doesn't specifically define what "arrival" means. It COULD mean when the application physically arrives via mail/certified mail or whatever, however, it could also mean AFTER the app arrives, is sent to the licensing folks, examined, and entered into their system....a process that is taking anywhere from 1 to 3 weeks from what I have read.
Heaven forbid your application is not "complete", as was my case with rejected prints. It took them 5 weeks to notify me, so who knows how long it will take for the app to be put back in the system. 1 week, 3?
SO, while many of our fellow citizens have had excellent service and have had their licenses issued WELL within the 90 day time frame, others of us......have to wait.
I'm giving them 90 days total before I contact a state representative. With no tickets, no arrests, and having had a security clearance for the past 20 years, there is no reason it should take as long as it has, besides bureaucratic incompetence that is...
88 day wait for the state to approve my constitutional right to bear arms...
