Any penalty for not paying a "Red Light Camera Ticket"?

Re: Any penalty for not paying a "Red Light Camera Ticket"?
While on this topic, what about toll roads? I let a friend of mine borrow my car for a couple months, and every now and then he'd go to Houston. Sometimes I'd get letters asking for some tiny amount of money ($2.50 or so) for his use of the toll roads without a tag. Then one day I got one where they had added something ridiculous like $45 per checkpoint crossed (there were 3). I never paid it and ignored any letters they sent regarding the matter, since I wasn't driving that car when it was photographed. Nothing has come of it, but I am curious as to whether or not this will bite me at some point.

Speaking of red light cameras...
Last night I saw a guy go through one and get his picture taken.
There was a Cop that also saw him. The Cop pulled him over.
I know the Cop also saw the flash of the red light camera because
it was dark outside and the flash (actually three flashes) lit up the
entire intersection.
I don't know if the Cop ticketed him or not but it got me wondering.
Can the offender receive two tickets for the same infraction?

I don't know a thing about this stuff, but maybe the cameras are simply set to take 3 "rapid fire" pictures so that they can get 1 usable picture.USA1 wrote:Speaking of red light cameras...

I think he meant one ticket from the real cop and a second ticket from the redlight robocop.

Yes, that's precisely what my question was.jester wrote:I think he meant one ticket from the real cop and a second ticket from the redlight robocop.
I know there are multiple flashes because there are multiple pictures
taken which show up on the ticket you receive in the mail.
My daughter (leadfoot) received a red light ticket once for turning right on red without stopping first.
The first photo showed her in the intersection while the light was red. The next shot showed that she
turned the corner and was almost out of frame. The final picture was just an empty intersection.

I was speaking to the multiple flashes part, not the multiple tickets part.USA1 wrote:I know there are multiple flashes because there are multiple pictures

If the offender receives a real ticket from an officer, the real ticket overrides the computer generated one. It's also a moving violation and not just a civil one and will go against your license unlike the computer generated one.

Recently someone I knew received a citation for failing to stop on a right on red turn. They had video of the entire incident on their website. After a call to the city of plano they were told that a warrant would be issued if it was not paid. He paid.
So from what I am reading here, it would not be valid to issue a warrant. True?

Re: Any penalty for not paying a "Red Light Camera Ticket"?
The red light scameras are not actually owned by the city. The two bigger companies who install and operate them are Redflex and ATS, who also handle all of the "customer service" calls and questions about violation notices. Your friend probably called the city directly and talked to someone who had no idea what they were going on about. A warrant cannot be issued for this type of infraction unless your friend was issued an actual moving violation by a LEO (he wasn't)

At the Republican State Convention in June, as part of the party platform, we passed a resolution to ban the use of red light cameras in Texas. Hopefully our elected officials will act on it.

I wonder, assuming that call was recorded, he could sue the city of plano for violating the FDCPA.secure wrote:Recently someone I knew received a citation for failing to stop on a right on red turn. Re: Any penalty for not paying a "Red Light Camera Ticket"?
I recently heard (read it on Baytown's website) that while a warrant could not be issued, they were trying pass an ordinance that would prevent you from registering your vehicle until the ticket was paid. If the city needs a revenue generator, have a car wash on Saturdays...

Re: Any penalty for not paying a "Red Light Camera Ticket"?
IIRC, vehicle registrations are handled by the state and county. It would take the county's cooperation to block your registration renewal. Harris County isn't cooperating so far:

I think Houston may have a referendum to ban red light cameras on the November ballot.
