USACE Don't Ask Don't Tell

I was wondering why she sent me a response regarding "Don't Ask, Don't Tell". I forgot that I was asking for this rider to that bill.

I don't know how much attention senators pay to e-mail, but if we can get your idea on the desk of someone who can do something about it, it's worth the effort.

One e-mail is probably about as effective as a fart in a stiff breeze, but 100 or 1,000 might get some attention.

I knew a guy who worked as an intern in a congressman's office years ago. He said the congressman once showed him the foot-high stack of cards that came in the mail in response to some issue that the NRA was pushing at the time, and said that it was more than the congressman got on any other single issue.

My friends and I were talking about this at work. We can carry in National Parks, State Parks and have had the Supreme Court rule in favor of the 2nd Amendment. I am and will always be and vote Conservative. I have written all of my "Republican" Senators and Congressmen about this issue. I have never received a reply back, too busy I guess. One thing that I do ask them, what pro-2nd amendment anything have they initially proposed? Seems Oklahoma, Idaho and South Dakota are stepping up to the plate. Senators Hutchison and Cornyn do vote for pro-2nd items, but they never initiate or propose anything concerning pro gun issues. I am starting to believe, my representative Carter is anti-gun, he is so absent on gun issues. My office is very conservative and we all wrote the above individuals concerning the No Gun issue on Corps of Engineer property. Not a one of us received any kind of answer back, except a canned reply from Hutchison, but at least it was something. Carter only replies that he is pro-2nd. Now they will answer on multitude of other subjects, but seem to always take a back seat concerning Concealed Carry. Kind of embarrassing to see the state I love take a backseat to these others. I hope I am wrong and that I have missed information somewhere, it so please tell me...I will still and always vote Republican as long as they remain Conservative, but it is disappointing.

Thanks for writing to Senators etc. Yes they rarely read their mail, but they can't ignore all of us forever.
If enough people write often enough, it will at least influence the party platforms to be stronger I hope.

I don't they actually even understand the USACE issue, though many have explained it repeatedly, they have assistants reading/replying to mail who are clueless and I believe the actual senator/representative rarely gets the message..

Still, squeaky wheels get greased .... we just aren't squeaking often enough or loud enough yet.

A bill currently in debate in the Senate would change the Department of Defense's "don't ask don't tell" policy.

Persons who are otherwise legally permitted to carry a concealed weapon for self defense are prohibited from doing so on land and water controlled by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers [36 C.F.R. § 327.13(a)]. This regulation creates a patchwork of areas in Texas and on the state borders where a person can be accused of violating the law without prior notice and for no good reason. THIS IS PARTICULARLY TRUE WHERE TEXAS STATE and municipal PARKS LAND/WATERWAYS OVERLAP CORPS OF ENGINEERS AREAS.

It would be appropriate to amend this bill to remove the prohibition on carrying concealed weapons in areas controlled by the Army Corps of Engineers, as the recently passed credit-card act did for national parks.

Unfortunately, our senators did not get the memo. On top of that, the entire issue of revoking "don't ask don't tell" is either on hold or dead until next year.

Well, even if it is too late, I sent my messages, and here is my version of the wording, which relies heavily on yours, in case someone else might want to use it as boilerplate for something else:

Dear Senator,

A bill currently in debate in the Senate would change the Department of Defense's "don't ask don't tell" policy.

Persons who are otherwise legally permitted to carry a concealed weapon for self defense are prohibited from doing so on land and water controlled by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers [36 C.F.R. § 327.13(a)]. This is particularly true where Texas state and municipal parks and/or land and waterways overlap areas under the control of the Army Corps of Engineers.
