IDPA Questions
I'm thinking about coming out to PSC next weekend and trying an IDPA match. I will be using my Springfield XD9. I have a few questions.
I need at least 3 magazines?
Can anyone recommend a decent cheap double mag pouch, or is the mag pouch that came with my XD IDPA legal? Do I only need a double mag pouch or will I need 3 spots?
Is this holster IDPA legal? http://pistolgear.com/proddetail.php?prod=32DHC&cat=7
Any other info needed will be much appreciated, mainly everything I need to bring with me, requirements, how the process works for someone who has never done this before.
Thanks
Dustin

Some of the IDPA shooters will be on before the night is over. They will be your authority. Holster is legal. From what I remember seeing, the mag carriers are legal. There should be someone close to you that will be a good coach. Have fun & stay safe.

Carry 24-7 or guess right.

The holster is legal most of the pancake style holsters are. Your magazine carrier is probably OK but with the mags tilted in different directions it isn't going to be very "user friendly." If you want a decent mag carrier that won't cost an arm and a leg take a look at Fobus.
Go to IDPA.com and download the rule book the ammunition carrier rules start on p 36.
Have a good time!!!

You're covered with the holster and the fobus mag carrier is a good cheap alternative to the Springfield V for victory/can't get my 2nd mag out for a reload, mag holder, as already stated above.
The best thing I can tell you is to identify yourself as a New Shooter as soon as you see someone that looks like they're in charge. (Match Director or Safety Officer)
That person will make sure you're squared away before the noise starts.
You WILL have fun. No doubt about it.

Appreciate the info guys. I'm hoping the XDGear mag carrier is ok. Not really concerned with speed yet, as I'm sure I shouldn't be on my first time for safety sake. I would grab a pouch I know is legal but I'm tapped out on cash for a couple weeks. Had about enough cash to spare for the holster, extra mags, ammo, and the match fee. I only need 3 mags right?
Thanks
Dustin
Thanks

Two mags in ESP are enough but three is better. IDPA rules state that no course of fire can require more than 18 scored shots. Your XD loaded to division capacity will have 10+1= 11 rounds and a spare of 10 rounds will give you 21 rounds. Three magazines (one in the gun and two spares) are all that are allowed with an exception of a "Barney bullet" mag for topping off.

Hey Dustin,
Come on out and bring what ya got. You need at least three mags. You'll be fine with one double mag holder.
Even if your gear is not IDPA legal, this is a club level match and new shooters are always welcome regardless. In fact the worst that will happen is someone will probably loan you another mag holder to try. In fact, I have one that will prob. work that you're welcome to use.
Just don't confuse your mag holder with your cellphone holder 'ahem"
And you'll be okay....
(That was for somebody else....
)
BTW: I think you'll be legal anyway with your XD gear.

Dustin-
I look forward to shooting with you. You will love IDPA...it is great fun. I also have some mag holders that might work for you...remind me before the weekend and I will be glad to bring them. Take care.
