Rep Riddle responds to Houston Chronicle Editorial
Following is a response from Rep. Debbie Riddle (District 150) to an editorial run and endorsed by the Houston Comical (Chronicle).
Rep. Riddle is a pit bull when it comes to securing the TX border, and is the Rep that sponsored Campus Carry and the Parking Lot bills last year. She is as tenatious as they come. She'll be on Anderson Cooper 360 tonight and will be on KTRH (AM-740) tomorrow morning (Houston). I thought some of the forum members might find this an interesting read.

Re: Rep Riddle responds to Houston Chronicle Editorial
An interesting thing to consider: Considering the fight Repubs will have with EITHER voter ID or securing the border, will gun issues be largely put aside this session in favor of these issues? To get a more secure border and voter id, I think I'd be okay with that.

I don't understand the Democrat's objections. It's not like Riddle is suggesting potential voters pay for and sit through a 10-15 hour class, pass a written test, get photographed and fingerprinted, send a bunch of paperwork and a $140 check to Austin, then pass a state and FBI background check to get a voter registration card.

It's real simple. Voter IDs will virtually eliminate vote fraud. Without vote fraud, Democrats will win a lot fewer elections.jester wrote:I don't understand the Democrat's objections. "A fear of weapons is a sign of retarded sexual and emotional maturity." ("General Introduction to Psychoanalysis," Sigmund Freud)
I just looked at the text by Freud at Questia.com and used the search function with the word "weapon". It appears on 3 pages and the quote indeed DOES NOT appear.nitrogen wrote:I hope you know that Freud quote is a fake. He never made it...

Jesus said, "And the one who has no sword must sell his cloak and buy one." (Luke 22:36 NET) Also, Jesus said, "When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own homestead, his possessions are undisturbed"(Luke 11:21 NAS)

According to this site (look for "Misattributed") the quote belongs to Don Kates in an essay he wrote on Freud's Dreams in Folklore.

Thanks to all for the fact check. Actually, Don Kates impresses me far more than Freud...baldeagle wrote:According to this site (look for "Misattributed") the quote belongs to Don Kates in an essay he wrote on Freud's Dreams in Folklore.
In either case, I'll change my signature anyway...it's time.

Rep. Riddle was neither the sponsor of the campus carry bill nor the sponsor of the parking lot bill. For both bills, she was one of 75+ Representatives to sign on as a "coauthor" (aka supporter), but she was neither the "primary author" (aka sponsor) nor a "joint author" on either bill.pdubyoo wrote:Following is a response from Rep. She is the Representative who was expected to--but ultimately didn't--file an open carry bill.

Re: Rep Riddle responds to Houston Chronicle Editorial
I am against voter fraud, Who isn't!. I believe that having voters provide ID is a good thing. I do have some questions, is this a real issue? Is voter fraud a real issue in Texas? The reason I wonder is this is the issue that cost us Campus Carry and the Parking lot bill. While its easy to blame the Democrats, most of us wouldn't vote for any of them anyway. Seems like this might be much ado about nothing,

Re: Rep Riddle responds to Houston Chronicle Editorial
It would seem to me that if voter fraud is an issue, it simply has to be going on for both teams. If the Democrats were the only guilty party, we would have substantially more scandalous information. The Republicans sponsoring the bill seem to be alluding to "potential" for voter fraud, but haven't really provided any hard evidence. Yet, the Democrats are really going to bat against the issue. It seems to me like both parties have dirt on the other.
On a side note, Riddle has to coax out the threat of a "dirty bomb" to finally justify her concerns? I want the border secured, but haven't we played the WMD fiddle enough? One day the politicians and media will wake up and realize that they've cried wolf a few million times too many.

The ID required to vote should be the same as the ID required to buy a gun.
