Do you look for others like you?

There's a place out near Sugar Land. Every time I go in there, there's a fellow hanging out (I'm assuming a friend or family member of the owner) that parks right out front, and is in the store listening to his hand-held police scanner, always wandering around. To say he prints is an under-statement. I took my wife in there recently, and she was like "oh my". Um, he's a smaller guy, and the .45 on his belt just STANDS OUT. All ok in a gun store, but I'm hoping he doesn't make too many other public stops like that......

Probably an off-duty LEO. They don't seem to be as concerned about printing or as good at concealing as armed citizens--eg many of them carry concealed at 3 o'clock with a full-sized gun like they would on duty, rather than behind the hip where it is easier to conceal.

I've made several off-duty LEOs this way, but rarely a fellow CHL holder (only a couple of pretty obvious newbies).

I never really look for people carrying.
I look constantly for people that might be a threat.


However, "Do you look for others like you?" is really kind of scary on other levels....

As a retired LEO, when I carried concealed on or off duty I didn't care if I was "made" as I always had a badge right next to the holster. And I had the right to carry almost anywhere in the state I needed to go, even with 30.06 signs, etc. Now that I'm retired and carry under authority of CHL, I have to be a bit more careful. I might print but printing is not, in my opinion, a violation. That's for another thread if anyone wants to go there. OK?

If i print or not I think most LE sees a print in a Belt holster they tend to think "hey he may be off duty LE" I have a few friends that are LE and they all agree most bad guys don't wear holsters.

I've made a couple at Wally shorts, tee, and vest. Worst was carrying gun mag with some 45 ACP in seat of cart and talking about how he wished he had the cash for a stainless Smith he saw at some pawnshop on his Bluetooth and yes his vest gaped way too much on the right side. 1911 stnls steel 3:00. If he was LEO he was vice or narco, last time my hair and beard looked like that was 1974.

My wife usually doesn't know I have mine unless I tell her. 5'10 230. Kahr and SP101 usually IWB summer. Taurus Mil Pro joins mix OWB and SP moves OWB winter.

I finally saw one today without question. We've all seen the old guy with the fanny pack or carrying the man puse while in short and t shirt. We went to Target in Mesquite as we walked in past the cash registers there was a guy in his 30's wearing cargo shorts and tshirt with a buzz cut and 2 day beard, sound like I fit the description His tshirt was about 2" shorter than it should've been and there was that clip, you know the one that is pretty much only used on IWB holsters, at 3:00 with the undeniable outline, to the trained eye, of a pistol but just behind it. No big deal just the first time that there was absolutely no question. I wasn't so obvious that anyone but CHL or LE would have noticed.
