Re: Stairway to Heaven
I attended the Army's Airborne School at Ft Benning many years ago. I made five jumps to get my wings. All five jumps out of C-130s and C-141s were from elevations lower than the tower in the video.

Re: Stairway to Heaven
I never knew such a job existed or that they would free climb like that on slippery little metal pegs carrying 30 lb packs a third of a mile up in the air. Fascinating but insane.

Re: Stairway to Heaven
I was told a story (true or not!) about when the 1100 foot towers were built north of Des Moines, IA in the 1970's. One worker dressed up a dummy and carried the dummy up the tower at night and hid him in a box. The next, while the sidewalk supervisors were watching, another guy (2 guys and the dummy were dressed the same) climbed up to the box where the dummy was. The guy threw the dummy out of the box toward some tall grass close to the base of the tower. As soon as the dummy landed, the second guy stood up from the grass, brushed himself off and exclaimed that he was about ready to quit this job because this was the third time this week he had fallen!

I have rappelled out of a 16th story landing, inverted at the 14th to do a line transfer, took the patient down to the 12th. I only say this to give weight to the fact that I believe the guys doing this are NUTS!

I gotta go lay down

Re: Stairway to Heaven
I would probably fall and hurt myself.
Re: Stairway to Heaven
if you fell, I would guess (educated guess) that you would do more than hurt yourself LOLAJ80 wrote:I would probably fall and hurt myself.

I was thinking the same thing. I believe if I had to climb that, I would have a chute on my back for that just in case kind of moment. Besides, who wants to climb back down that?AndyC wrote:Man - that would make for an awesome BASE jump
