Election day 2010 is November 2. The last day to register to vote is October 1 (technically it's October 3, but that is a Sunday and not a business day).
You can register at your county courthouse (the treasurer is the authority) or annex or mail an application.

Re: Register to vote NOW!
I'm going to register but I have a question.
During the Presidential election I walked in to vote and they said "you're not registered". They gave me a short form to fill out and I was able to cast my vote. So, if a person misses this deadline, wouldn't they still be able to vote anyway like I did?

Re: Register to vote NOW!
Yeah. What you filled out was an affidavit of eligibility. Such a vote is called a provisional ballot, and it is counted only if it would make a difference. Also it is a criminal offense to make a false statement on such an affidavit, though these things are rarely prosecuted.

Sure do. I'm counting down to election day. I don't think I'm alone. I have a feeling there will be a record turnout by Americans across the country who have been waiting to have their/our voices heard..."We will remember in November!".suthdj wrote:Don't you mean REAL hope and change?USA1 wrote:Thank you Jim. This might be one of the most historic elections in current history.

^^^^agreed
After the big fuss of last year's town hall meetings I think everyone has been a little more quiet, realizing that the election is the real time to take action, and have been stewing, keeping each tyrant and each tyrannical act or comment filed away in their minds, counting down the days until November 2 .

Re: Register to vote NOW!
Some notes on voting deadlines and provisional ballots:
- October 4 (Monday), per the Texas Secretary of State's election calendar, is the deadline to register to vote for the 2 Nov election.
- If you vote provisionally, but the provisional voting board ballot board cannot verify that you were legally entitled to vote at that precinct, your provisional ballot will not be opened nor counted.
- If you vote provisionally, you are supposed to receive a notice in the mail within 10 days of the election telling if your ballot was counted, and if not, why. The provisional voting ballot board is supposed to evaluate all the affidavits and count the qualifying ballots, regardless of the closeness of the election, by the 7th day after the election.
- Filling out the affidavit for a provisional ballot will register you to vote for the next election (assuming you are otherwise qualified), but it does not register you for the election at which you cast the provisional ballot -- you have to be registered 30 days in advance (with a small allowance for weekends/holidays, hence the Oct 4 deadline for the Nov 2 election).
The focal point for voter registration varies among counties, but the actual post is called the Voter Registrar. Some have a separate Elections Administrator who performs this duty, some have the Tax Assessor do it, some have the County Clerk. You can find a county-by-county list here:

You can check to see if you are registered to vote (and in which precinct) at the Texas Secretary of State site: https://team1.sos.state.tx.us/voterws/v ... nVoter.jsp" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
If you don't show up, get with the Voter Registrar pronto.

I have tried to make everyone within my "sphere" is aware of the conciquenses of this Novembers election. I have also gotten likeminded folks (8) who typically don’t vote, registered to vote. I have tried, with out using strongarm tactics, to help them understand the nationwide importance of the outcome of the upcoming midterm elections.seamusTX wrote:Election day 2010 is November 2. I don’t know about others here but when I encounter someone who has already had a sip of the “kool-aid”, I may inquire a bit further but typically just move on to more viable candidates, there is no convincing some people. I wonder why some people just don’t make sound judgements a decisions based in logic. I guess I’m wired diferently…

Re: Register to vote NOW!
I don't know why I wrote "treasurer" earlier. In Galveston County the tax assessor-collector registers voters. Election Code 12.001 governs the function of voter registrar.

Monday is the last day to register.
Everyone at the Neal house is registered and I plan to herd all of us to the Polls for early voting here in Harris County ASAP.

Re: Register to vote NOW!
I got a phone call the other night from Chuck Norris reminding me that I needed to register to vote. I'm almost certain that I'm registered, and that my voter registration card was sitting on the bar. In my mind, I can clearly see two blue voter registration cards, since my wife and I put both cards there. Certain that Chuck must be wrong,
I went to get my card and put it in my wallet. The cards weren't there. My wife and I have turned the house upside down looking for those cards. How did Chuck know? We're going to register (re-register?) this evening.

If you voted in 2008, you're registered. Your registration expires if you fail to vote for ten years straight, or if it is challenged and you do not respond.

Re: Register to vote NOW!
Are you sure Chuck has his facts straight? (I know, I'm dancing on dangerous ground here...) My wife got a letter from Chuck that she isn't registered either, so I went to the website that ELB referenced above, and we are both, in fact, registered.
