Road trip Oklahoma - Kansas - Nebraska in Oct

3 football fans (with CHL's) planning to drive to Lincoln, Neb. in OCT for Texas vs Nebraska game..Looking to tap the wealth of knowledge from the forum members, as to any special rules to follow as we pass through Okla, Kansas, & Nebraska.

I carried up through those states and never worried about anything other than keeping an eye out for no gun signs either textual or the infamous "circle w/slash through the gun" sign as I wasn't sure about the posting requirements of those states yet.

I've carried through Oklahoma and into Kansas with no problem.

Kansas is also an OC state in many locations if you're inclined. They do not have pre-emption and therefore local municipalities are able to have their own ordinances restricting OC. Wichita is one of the more notable. You can OC in your car if you have a CHL. Don't speed and don't step out of your car while OCing someplace it is not allowed. I get to Kansas a couple of times each year, but haven't worked my way up to OCing yet. I don't know anything about Nebraska's CC or OC laws.

Plus, you have the added bonus of it being cooler in October making a light to medium weight jacket the norm. This makes CC soooo much easier.

I recently heard that Topeka, Kansas failed to renew their ban on open carry. May want to check on that as well.......

Its enough to check states by themselves, but to have to check all the municipalities you may pass through can be difficult...

OC is legal in Topeka now. They claim it was an oversight. They were deleting a section of ordinances and they just happen to contain the provisions that banned OC. Then they did not rush to "correct" the "error" and decided to wait and see what happens. There have been no wild west shootouts and blood has not run in the streets. Yet!

Hopefully, it will stay as is.

Do not spend any time searching for 30.06 signs. AFAIK, the 30.06 sign is unique to Texas. Elsewhere, "no guns allowed" signs, including the world famous "gunbuster" sign, are notice that no guns are allowed .

Watch the tribal lands in OK. They have their own laws and rules on their lands. The casinos are definitely off-limits, but I have heard different things on legality of keeping it locked in your car. At best it is a gray area and best to be very cautious with discretion being the best bet on letting anyone know you have a firearm.

Sorry to bump an older thread, but I'm heading for Kansas City (Missouri side) this weekend. I plan to carry my LCP concealed all the way... anything I need to know about when in the cities? Anything significantly different from TX? Notices, etc?

Only that There are no 30.06 signs. I think gun buster signs are adequate and enforceable in those states. I haven't spent much time in MO, so I haven't looked over their laws very well.

I believe gun buster signs are valid OK and Kansas, but not Missouri. Missouri requires an 11 x 14 sign stating 'No concealed carry'. Missouri is also an open carry state, but cities can override open carry with local ordinances. I am not sure about K.C., but would be cautious if you plan to carry openly unless in an unincorporated area. Otherwise, Missouri is a VERY friendly concealed carry state. The current Governor, even though a Democrat, was a big proponent of concealed carry legislation and helped push for the law when he was the states Attorney General.

There seems to be some debate whether "any sign" is sufficient notice to bar CC in Oklahoma. Their trespass statutes seem to indicate you have to be asked to leave. However, some people don't see it this way. I'm getting this from reading the OK Shooters Forum

You might go on the forum and ask around. I carry (in my car) up to OK, but for work related reasons I generally don't carry on my person up there, so I haven't noticed too many signs.

Watch Nebraska and Kansas for local ordinances that can really mess you up.
