Texas State Parks

Post by XDgal »

I went to Dinosaur Valley State Park yesterday and noticed they had a sign posted that said " wildlife sanctuary, firearms prohibited". Does that include concealed carry with a CHL? Or does that just concern hunting? There were no 30.06 signs and I have seen a letter from the Texas State Parks and Wildlife that states that concealed carry is ok in all state parks. I guess I really just want a clarification on this little nuance of the carry laws. Thanks in advance for any and all input. BTW we had a wonderful time at a great park on a beautiful day.

Check this link from http://www.packing.org. It has a copy of a letter stating that these signs do not apply to CHL holders. Look under documents, the second document.

CHL is not restricted in a STATE park. National parks are another matter, but carry away completely legally in a state park based on your CHL.

Call them and ask. It should be ok since it's a state park.

During a road trip last week, I carried in Buescher, Bastrop and Inks Lake State Parks with no problem.
