XDM 45 on sale at Gander

Post by Painter99 »

Just looked at Gander flyer and noticed the XDM 45 is on sale at Gander.Anyone have any opinions on this firearm. I have been putting money back for a Kimber, however SA was my second choice going into my personal elimination. I don't really have that much experience with DAO pistols, so that is what made me go ahead and move up to Kimber.I still think SA is a quality firearm just unsure of the DAO. I realize I'm comparing polymer to all steel here, but just wanting to know if y'all think this is a quality pistols. Looks like I might have to get up at 4am . LOl. Any comments would be helpful. I have shot two of these, one of which is my own. I also own an XDm-45 and an XD-40. The rental 45 had a good trigger (almost identical to my XDm-40) while my 45 had a terrible trigger (NOTE: Past tense because I did perform a trigger job). Aside from that I have had no issues with any XDm pistols. Would I buy it again, yeah. Feel free to ask any specific questions and I will try to answer.
How do you explain a dog named Sauer without first telling the story of a Puppy named Sig?

First, the XD and XDm are not double action, they are striker fired. Striker fired guns are most similar to a single action gun. However, the stock XD and XDm trigger does have a lot (IMHO more than desirable) of takeup. With the money you save buying the XDm you could easily afford a Springer Precision trigger job, and extra ammo to practice. Their replacement trigger bar removes more than half the takeup, and the replacement sear will give a smooth pull and good release. I'd also suggest the "Action Cleanup."

While there is no doubt Kimber also makes a decent product, the 13 + 1 capacity of the XD tips the scales for me.

The trigger on the XD will never feel just like a 1911, but it can be just as good with a little work.

I have a XDM45 and also a Kimber Crimson Ultra Carry II...love them both. The Kimber is a great CCW gun and extremely accurate and reliable.
The XDM 45 is also very reliable and pretty darn accurate as well...I don't carry the beast though its huge.If you get the XDM you will like it.
Also wanted to add that i let a freind shoot my XDM 45 at the range and he was in awe of the massive 45 cal bullets all 13 0f them.
Its one power house for sure.

Went ahead and pulled the trigger so to speak.Went to Gander on Friday and found an EXTREMELY gently used Sig P220. This is my first 1911 style pistol and I am very pleased with it thus far. Put 50 rounds downrange and it performed flawlessly with amazingly light recoil. They were asking 750.00 and I talked em down to 650. Will post a pic in a new thread and feel free to comment as you wish. Thanks , Bryan

Wouldn't exactly call a P220 a "1911 style" .45. :headscratch

P220? Why did ya go with that instead of the XDM? Ya going to CCW the P220?
Yeah not what i'd call 1911 style either....If ya really wanted 1911 style i'd kept saving up for the Kimber if it was me....

If a Sig P220 is "1911 style" then I must have about fifteen 1911 style guns.

Perhaps by "1911 style" he means .45 ACP and a metal frame? But more importantly, we want pictures!

Sorry if I mis-spoke. Very well aware of what a 1911 is .(and isn't) Simply was referring to the hammer fired "style" . Yes this is for CCW. It is the compact version with 3.9 inch barrel and under 30 ounces.Pic is in "pictures of daily carry" thread.
