NJ Man Sentenced to 7 Years for Legally Owned Guns

A man in New Jersey was sentenced to 7 years in prison for possessing legally owned guns. The guns were found unloaded, in a locked container, and the container was inside a duffel bag filled with clothes in his trunk as he was moving residences.

New Jersey law prohibits carrying a gun in your car, but there is an exemption if you're carrying it from one residence to another while moving. The judge refused to allow the jury to consider this exemption in their deliberations, despite three requests from the jury for information regarding this exemption.

He did have clips which exceeded NJ's legal capacity and had hollow-point bullets in his possession. The clips are illegal in NJ, but the hollow-points are only illegal if used in the commission of a separate crime, though the article doesn't make this distinction and implies hollow-points are illegal to simply possess.

This is a travesty of justice. Perhaps Gov. Christie will grant him a pardon.

I'm glad I live in Texas.
