9mm Winchester Ammo
I was just at Wal-Mart in Webster, was going to pickup some Federal 9mm 50ct boxes, which were the lowest price I could find locally at $10.47/box, when I noticed the nice white boxes of Winchester, and I've known that they were always about $13.50/50 and $25/100, when, to my surprise, I saw the 50ct, at the normal price, and a new tag under the 100ct of $19.97.
I asked the guy to check and see if the price was right, it was, but noted it had an * next to the date (12/2/2010) when it was re-priced. He did not know if this was a permanent price or a temporary price, so I picked up 3 boxes for my next range day sometime around Christmas.

I remember the 100ct WWB being $19.97 a while back, second half of '09, iirc. Good to see that it's back down again.
Incidentally, I had to chuckle when I went into Gander the other week. Their Black Friday sale price on the same was around $30. Ended up the only thing I bought was a raffle ticket for the Shriners' Hospital.

Winchester white box is good stuff but I have noticed that my grouping improves with Remington UMC or the Federals from Wal-Mart. For non +P the Winchester seems to be less accurate for me. I shoot +P Gold dots and Black Hills with better grouping. It is still quality ammo for target practice.

Wwb comes with lose rds? I mean they are like bulk ammo.

Yes for the 100 count, no for the 50 count.Beiruty wrote:Wwb comes with lose rds? I mean they are like bulk ammo.

Yup, just a box of bullets loose.

Re: 9mm Winchester Ammo
I had this same experience with a WWB 100-count box. I don't buy them anymore. It seems only the primer went off, squibbing the bullet in the barrel on my Hi-Power at the very beginning of the rifling. The action was littered with unburnt powder grains. I had to go buy dowel rod to hammer it out.macavity wrote:I've shot a couple of Winchester's White Box ammo 50ct, and one 100ct. The second time I shot a box of 100ct, it caused a bullet to get stuck in the barrel. The only reason I knew something was wrong was because the next bullet wouldn't load. If the stuck bullet stopped a centimeter further in the barrel, I wouldn't have my P226 anymore![]()
When I field stripped the gun, there was a ton of unburnt grains everywhere. That happened a month ago. I sent in the remaining ammo to Winchester for analysis. They should be calling me sometime this next week.
Since then, I've stocked up on a couple thousand rounds of Remington 9mm Ammo.
How did you manage to get in contact with them? When this happened to me, I couldn't find any way of getting a hold of them short of snail mail.

Nice to see prices coming down across the board. Personally though I was unimpressed with the WWB - always seemed to be a wide spread in felt recoil like the powder charges were very inconsistent; some very weak, the odd one somewhat hot. No actual hard data to back that up, but I never felt that kind of variation in any other brands.
Re: 9mm Winchester Ammo
I agree, a little, to some of the sentiment about WWB, however, for target ammo, to put holes in paper and build more muscle memory, I am always willing to save a few bucks.
I am not a marksman by any means, so if I was 2" (or 8") left or right of bullseye, in an IDPA type of setup, I still feel that if I were doing that exact same shot in a real defensive situation, I would be happy with that.
I certainly see no reason to spend $5 or $10 more per 100, when that $10 more would be another 50 rounds (almost), and more learning.
