New to CHL and Site
Howdy Yall!
Long time lurker but brand new CHL owner and poster. I took my class on December 12, 2010, mailed on December 13, 2010 and got my plastic today, January 13, 2011. Not too bad, especially for them processing it over Christmas break and all. Anywho, I'm a student at Texas A&M in College Station (graduating this May...class of 2009...funny how that works) and live in Houston. My carry (for now until I can afford better) is a Taurus PT145. I'm still grappling with the best way to carry it comfortably and non-visible though! Anyway, just introducing myself...I really enjoy looking around here!

Welcome TexasAggie09! I also carry a PT145. I use Crossbreed's Supertuck IWB holster to carry my PT145. It is very comfortable for all day carry, whether I'm walking, sitting or driving.

welcome to the site, and it's encouraging to hear that you got your CHL in the mail so quickly. i sent my app off at the end of December, hoping to get my plastic by mid to late February.
how do you like the PT145? i'm planning on getting a Glock 27 for everyday carry but have considered the PT145 (or .40 caliber equivalent, i think it's a PT140) as a spare to keep in the truck or to carry on occasion. i checked out the PT145 millennium pro at Academy a couple days ago and didn't care for the sights too much, but i plan on putting night sights on any gun i intend to carry anyway.

Welcome, TexasAggie09! Glad to have you on the forum.
We love our Aggies (daughter and SIL are class of '05), but I do need to ask you to please reduce the size of your ATM in your signature. Check out Longtooth's picture there for a general size guideline.

Re: New to CHL and Site
Thanks for the welcome everyone! I look forward to helping out where I can and asking all sorts of questions.
I've been hearing a lot of good things about that SuperTuck. I can't afford it right now but I definitely want to look at it soon. Before I buy that I'm about to buy another pistolmikeintexas wrote:Welcome TexasAggie09! I also carry a PT145. I use Crossbreed's Supertuck IWB holster to carry my PT145. For the price you can't beat the PT145 being a .45 and all. It feels pretty well balanced fully loaded and all. There are certainly nicer guns but it's small enough for carry and with 11 rounds total I can't really beat it. I'm sure I'll upgrade in several years and it'll become my truck gun but for now I really like it. I'll be replacing the sights when I can afford it.rmr1923 wrote:welcome to the site, and it's encouraging to hear that you got your CHL in the mail so quickly. i sent my app off at the end of December, hoping to get my plastic by mid to late February.

Re: New to CHL and Site
i hear that, you can find a good set of night sights for around $60-$70 online, and i think most gunsmiths would charge no more than about $50 to install them. since you're in the Houston area, you might go by your nearest Carter's Country and talk to them about having some installed. i was looking at guns there last week and the guy told me their gunsmith does night sights on any handgun for $150, includes the sights and labor. i didn't ask what brand the sights were though.TexasAggie09 wrote: For the price you can't beat the PT145 being a .45 and all. Re: New to CHL and Site
welcome to the site and congrats on the plastic. . .
my all-day carry is the PT140 with the IWB Supertuck which is well worth the price, IMHO.
those straight-eight Heine sites do take some getting used to, I googled heine straight eight sights and checked out the illustration they have there on proper sight picture and corrected the low to the left problem immediately!
enjoy that PT145 they seem to be reliable and "right sized" for the intended purpose!
