I too would recommend looking for a gun store somewhere along your route in PA to store your weapon. If you go up I-81 like the map shows, you will have to be disarmed for very little time until you reach the NJ border--you are only in Maryland for about 10-15 minutes, and the rest of the time you are in states that have reciprocity with Texas.

SCOTUS might decide soon whether to allow Revell's lawsuit to go forward:

I'll quit carrying a gun when they make murder and armed robbery illegal

I made the drive, and that is the route I followed. You still go through Maryland, but not for very long and not into DC.

The trouble starts when you get into some of the more leftist areas on the East Coast, beginning with DC. Under NJ law, as the NRA reports it, I'm not even legal if I put my unloaded pistol in a locked case before I cross the state line.

Are there places to check your gun before crossing from Virginia into DC? Aside from telling the wife to go to NJ by herself, what would you do?
The Volkmer act does NOT protect you in NJ if you stay more than overnight. Even then if you run afoul of a NJ LEO, odds are that you are going to jail and could be charged with several felonies.

If you are going to NJ for a period longer than enter one day and leave the next, find someplace else for your firearm.
I won't be wronged, I won't be insulted, and I won't be laid a hand on.
I don't do those things to other people and I require the same of them.

Don’t pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight, he’ll just kill you.

We may never know, since the thread is over 4 years old (November 2006). The OP hasn't posted since December 2007.

Good Eye!

Now comes the question of why it was resurrected and why didn't I, et al, notice the "expiration" date? :banghead:
You reckon the OP never made it out of there alive?

Either that, or your guess was correct that he did something really bad and his wife offed him.
