S.4057 - Carry in National Parks
I understand that there is a bill, S.4057, that would remove the prohibition against having a firearm for self defense in a National Park. I don’t know if it is still viable or if it would include those other than CHL holders, but I think it might be worth writing both of our Senators urging support for this bill or something similar. If possible make it a hand written letter. I have been told that a hand written letter carries the weight of a couple of dozen typed letters and about 100 times the weight of an e-mail.

I emailed both of them as soon as it was introduced by a member in our legislation for 07 section. I got a reply from Senator Cornyn saying that he fully supports our right to self protection. He didn't address the bill directly, but the overall message was that he holds the same beliefs that the bill is pushing for.

On another forum, I got the same message, and I called both our senators. An aide to Kay Bailey Hutchinson told me that she supports the bill, but I never got an answer back from Cornyn. nice to hear that he (seems to) support it as well.

Both of our US Senators from Texas are Pro Gun Control. They know that it is the "Political Kiss of Death" to be Anti Gun and try to get elected to anything, state wide in Texas.

You are saying that Hutchinson and Cornyn support gun control??Jungle Work wrote:Both of our US Senators from Texas are Pro Gun Control. They know that it is the "Political Kiss of Death" to be Anti Gun and try to get elected to anything, state wide in Texas.

The NRA rates Hutchinson A+ and I am pretty sure Cornyn is right up there too.

I'm pretty sure he meant "pro gun" not "pro gun control". I got your back Jungle.;)
(Talking about the anti movement)
Thats what I can't stand about politics. We label "them" as anti-gun, yet they like to call themselves "pro gun control". Sounds less scary, doesn't it?

I really thought that I knew what he meant to say but the way it sounded was not quite correct.
Lots of political types say what they will to be elected then vote the other way. I knew our senators were not that way.
Yes, there are rabid antis elected from Texas. Look at the Houston delegation. The "Political Kiss of Death" did not prevent the current crop from being elected.

Statewide elections are different. There are enclaves where being an anti won't stop a rep from getting elected its not as likely these days in a state wide election though.anygunanywhere wrote:I really thought that I knew what he meant to say but the way it sounded was not quite correct.

I remember something along those lines. She took a pistol to DC and was informed it had to be disassembled to be legal.

We need to change this. Antis should hold no position of authority.Liberty wrote:Statewide elections are different. I can see where you are coming from...But I can say that he'll vote to remove a restriction, before and or dispite the alternative...Venus Pax wrote:The fact that Cornyn did not state specifically that he will vote for this bill bothers me. You have to watch politicians, unfortunately.
Kay's been solid in the past and that why she's got an A+ rating, because of her voting record on this issue...
The only problem now is that the majority of democrats are in lock step, and are looking to bloddy the noses of conservatives at any chance they get...So I believe we won't get this to go our way...
But thats just my take on it...
