never ceases to amaze me.... (gunbusters)
I was at my credit union today and as I was going in i noticed a "gunbusters" sign at the entrance, I completed my transaction and then asked the teller if the branch manager was there and was told she had left for the day but he could help me... I asked him about the sign (failing to menchen its unenforceable) and was told that that was above the branch managers head. Thats not the part which got my blood going however He then proceded to tell me that even with a chl there are still many places that I cant carry, wait for this, like gas stations
or anyone who sells alcohol. I tried to explain that that was untrue and he then claimed a relation to our police chief so 'he knowes what he is talking about'...
It may be time to find another bank.

If your police chief is giving instructions of that sort, you may need to move to another town.
I hope when the guy said "gas stations" he meant convenience stores that sell alcoholic beverages. Even people who have passed the CHL test sometimes have trouble understanding the difference between blue and red signs.

Let sleeping dogs lie
I do not mention any signs to anyone.
Especially unenforceable ones.
Doing that just gets them to putting up 30.06 signs.
I MIGHT stand in a doorway of a business with a 30.06 sign and hollar in while holding a roll of hundreds, sorry, you don't want my bidness.
But usually I just shop and bank where no 30.06 signs are, and let the other sleeping dogs lie.
My bank has a gunbuster sign to make employees "feel" good. But CHLs are allowed to be armed there.
See a green stop sign on private parking lots? .... just drive through it and smile if you want to, same with unenforceable "feel good" signs requesting this or that.

If he was being honest about his relation to the APD police chief, which I see no reason to doubt, I think its time for a few of us to call his office and clear things up. That california garbage don't fly here.

If you really want to do something positive, close your account/s and find a bank that wants your business. You can discuss the sign and the Asst. Mgr. wannabee in your exit interview with the real branch manager.

I've never seen a stop sign that wasn't red, even on private property. My understanding is that: as long as it's private property, it's not enforceable (no matter what color the sign is).RPB wrote:See a green stop sign on private parking lots? .... just drive through it and smile if you want to, same with unenforceable "feel good" signs requesting this or that.
Re: never ceases to amaze me.... (gunbusters)
Pointing out an unenforceable sign is just asking to get an ORAL 30.06 notice, (no specific wording required) after which you'll need to leave or be arrested.
That's like requesting to be evicted, no reason to do it.
(Right after I got my CHL I made that same mistake at a County Tax office which can't post a 30.06 but had a non-compliant sign too ... I'm not being critical, I'm sharing my experience)
It's my job to know the difference in an enforceable and non-enforceable sign, but it isn't my job to educate people who put up signs, sometimes they intentionally put up unenforceable ones and don't want employees hearing differently.
I've seen all sorts of colors of unenforceable signs on private property, but never figured why anyone would want one weirdly colored when green means go ...
I actually saw an old yellow stop sign (Don't know where it came from) and a yellow yield sign (pre-1960s) out on a lost unmarked farm/ranch road no one maintains any more.

Re: never ceases to amaze me.... (gunbusters)
My bank has a gunbusters sign. I ignore it. I know they put it there to make timid think they are doing something to ensure their safety. They don't even have an unarmed security guard, let alone an armed one. The former bank manager knew about my CHL because we were talking guns over coffee when he first recruited me to move my accounts from B of A to his community bank.

I could not agree more!!!
Look at it this way. Why start a fist fight with a guy who has no arms??? A GUN BUSTER SIGN IS NOT SPEAKING TO YOU IF YOU HAVE A CHL!!!! You have already won before you start! Somewhere I read something about fighting an opponent and beating him but not killing him. The next time you come at him, he will be better prepared.

Wouldn't be Frost on dallas rd would it? Those are the kinds of things I miss about grapevine. I'm so moving back after this college thing is over. Wouldn't surprise me if it was the same guy(not going to name names). But the old manager there was a great guy and great customer. The Annoyed Man wrote: The former bank manager knew about my CHL because we were talking guns over coffee when he first recruited me to move my accounts from B of A to his community bank.
My old man taught me years ago that it's best not to make meaningless conversation that could change an alreayd good thing. Not to give any grief, but it goes far further than just this sign. Good leasons to be past down.

Just be quiet. Those signs are only to remind people that do not have CHLs that they should not be illegally carrying guns into the bank. They serve no purpose and should be completely ignored by CHL holders. They are not for you.loadedliberal wrote:I was at my credit union today and as I was going in i noticed a "gunbusters" sign at the entrance, I completed my transaction and then asked the teller if the branch manager was there and was told she had left for the day but he could help me... It may be time to find another bank.
Re: never ceases to amaze me.... (gunbusters)
Well, I am one of the few with a contrary opinion to what others have expressed. I think you did exactly the right thing. As you didn't point out the fact the sign was 'unenforceable', then I firmly believe the odds of them spontaneously discovering it because of your conversation are sooo low as to be virtually non-existent. (Those who believe and operate with those kinds of odds, you should be encouraged to buy lottery tickets daily.)loadedliberal wrote:I was at my credit union today and as I was going in i noticed a "gunbusters" sign at the entrance, I completed my transaction and then asked the teller if the branch manager was there and was told she had left for the day but he could help me... You now have to make your own decision in this matter. As others have expressed, you are perfectly legal to continue to do business there and to carry right past that sign. But you have to decide if you want to continue to give you business to such a bank. If you do decide to leave them, however, I would strongly encourage you to make sure to let them know why they are losing your account - as a silent protest will accomplish nothing.loadedliberal wrote:It may be time to find another bank.
