Ouch Glad it wasn't an even worse situation. A couple fellows are going to get a bunch of non-funny jokes poked at them down at the Station soon ... it'll be a while before anyone laughs about it though.
APD officer shot in foot, by another officer

An Austin police officer accidentally shot another officer in the foot during a search of a South Austin apartment this morning.
Officers responded to a 911 call at 2:20 a.m. at 744 West William Cannon, said corporal Anthony Hipolito. The officers saw blood by the front door, and entered the apartment to check the welfare of any occupants, he said.
While trying to search an attic space, an officer got on a table then fell from it. As he hit the floor, his gun went off, striking another officer in the foot, Hipolito said. The officer was taken to Brackenridge Hospital and has been released, he said. The police department is investigating the incident — as it does any time an officer discharges a weapon — and is not yet releasing the names of the two officers, he said.
(The blood was from an earlier dog bite .... there was no "disturbance")

. The person who lived there returned a short time later and said the blood was from a dog bite and there was never any disturbance.

(I bet a bunch of Texas A&M faculty would be surprised that a bunch of other officers didn't immediately shoot the officer who shot the officer)

{{{sigh}}} Once again we have a gun that just "goes off" without human intervention. Seriously? Anyone wanna take bets that the gun was in the officer's hand and his finger was on the trigger when he fell? Sheesh. Before you know it, we have guns firing indiscriminately in the streets. Ban them all!!

Well since the officer is okay, I'm going to go ahead with this thought:
good ol cali implant apd chief art acevado thinks that THESE are the only people professional enough to handle an active shooter situation on the UT campus.
He spends days agonizing about cops shooting armed citizens, students shooting professors...maybe he should do a little less politicking and "what if"ing and a little more time getting some budget money directed towards some training with his officers.
Once again, I'm glad the worst thing hurt in this situation was pride and a foot. It could have been a lot worse.
