First let me say thanks to the organizers of this site for making it available. Although I am just now getting around to registering, I found the posts here very informative (and supportive) during the long application process, and while I have been experimenting with carry methods since getting my plastic about a month ago.
I'll spare you the personal details that you don't want to read anyway, save for occupational details: I consult and I teach regarding Economics and Investing, and my specialty is the current economic crisis that this country faces right now. I write a lot, both publicly and to my club members, and if you are at all interested, my web site is http://www.thededencompany.com/. Incidentally, I posted a Thought of the Day regarding guns today, and if anyone cares to take a look it is here: http://thededencompany.com/2011/04/21/a ... magazines/.
Oh yes, and I am a native Texan, although I spent six years living in Switzerland and I am married to a redheaded Swiss girl. And yes, she has a CHL too - she got it with me, although I am having trouble getting her to carry. She is a photographer specializing in children, if anyone is interested in that. She's quite talented, if I may be forgiven for saying so. Her website is http://www.magnoliacityphotography.com.
Now to the interesting stuff: I try to carry absolutely as often as possible, but this sometimes means restricting myself to my little Ruger LCP (loaded with 6+1 rounds of Winchester Silvertips in .380) in a pocket holster. That one becomes my backup gun quite often when I strap on my Kangaroo holster with a Glock 27 (9+1 rds of .40). But I still don't feel comfortable wearing that without a sport jacket, suit, or vest, as it tends to bulge a bit on most of my shirts, and I am just not the "jumbo t-shirt" kind of a guy. Plus, I like to wear my shirts tucked in. The good news is that I can wear a suit (e.g. to church or to a client meeting) without any bulge at all, as long as I keep the jacket on. You have to hug me to tell, and even then, either no one has noticed, or no one has said anything. (I only hug pro-second-amendment types anyway, so I am not worried.)
I have also tried some uncle mike's (or similar) IWB holsters with a .38 snubby and a S&W Sigma 9mm (this was an impulse buy - just too cheap to resist). Unfortunately, I just couldn't find a comfortable position anywhere, so after walking my dog with them once or twice, they have been relegated to the shoebox - I know I'm not the only one with a shoebox full of unused holsters, right? I also have an OWB holster for my Beretta 92 that I used when at Gunsite a few years ago - although I haven't gotten that far yet that I felt this was necessary. I do have a couple of great vests for cover garments, but in the places I usually am (pretty good neighborhoods in Houston), the LCP and the Glock provide more than adequate protection for 99% of what I am likely to encounter. The last 1% I am quite comfortable leaving in God's hands. (I mean, no need for racing restraints when we drive down to the grocery store, right? Normal seat belt and airbags work fine.)
Before I sign off, I do have one question I haven't yet come across the answer to. I'm curious about the origin of the expression "to be made" - apparently referring to having one's armed status discovered. Can anyone tell me where it comes from? Some movie I haven't seen? (Godfather doesn't quite make sense...)
Regards,
Ted

Re: Howdy y'all
Thanks speedsix, but I still don't understand where the word "made" was somehow connected to being "discovered"... anybody know more?
Re: Howdy y'all
...lotsa folks here know more...let's see if they know further back than then...
