Open carry in your own house?

Re: Open carry in your own house?
In the hot part of the summer, I mow my grass with a tank top on, or no shirt at all. I open carry. Neighbors have never said a word.
I had one police officer stop by when I was open carrying, but he was off duty and responding to a brass for sale ad I had posted.
He bought 3 three bags of brass. Never even mentioned the 45 Colt in the bikini holster riding on my right hip.
It's legal, but could cause some grief from liberal neighbors. My neighbors all know I stay armed all the time, and seem to somehow be reassured that they too are safer because of it.
I had one young lady (lives three doors down) made a quick trip to the corner store, came home and saw her front door open, drove to my house and asked me to check out her house for her.
I called 911 for her, and walked down to her house and stood outside while the officer cleared the house. Nothing disturbed and no sign of a break in. I think she just forgot to latch and close her door.

I OC'd while mowing my lawn the other day. My neighbors invited me over for some BBQ. I don't think it bothered anyone. (Yes, I covered up before crossing property lines).

...we OUGHT to be seen as the answer, not the problem...when our friends and neighbors either see or become aware that we carry...good stories!!!
Re: Open carry in your own house?
One night a while back I took my dog for a walk around the neighborhood. When I got home, I took off my overshirt, but left my undershirt on. My Beretta was OWB on my right hip. A few minutes later, my doorbell rang. Apparently UPS had left a package of mine at a neighbor's house down the road. I went out to the driveway to get the box from their vehicle. I didn't realize until after I got back inside that my M9 was exposed to the neighbors. Ironically, the package was filled with gun stuff (250rounds of Speer Gold Dots, 50rounds of 00 Buckshot, MecGar 20rd magazines, a gun belt, Perry suspenders, a Remington knife, etc.)
I usually OC around my house, too.

I wonder why they weren't charged for trespassing. But, I can see why this guy was arrested: http://www.valleycentral.com/news/story.aspx?id=543838PappaGun wrote:Remember this story?

Years ago, I had to retrieve my ex-wife from one of her friends residencies. I innocently knocked on the door and he cracked it open having a very large pistol in one hand. I was very taken aback as this was the first time I ever had anyone answer the door obviously armed. Made a point of never going back.

Re: Open carry in your own house?
My wife will not open the front door for anyone but immediate family. She will however carry her 605 with pink grips to the door to tell them to go away if someone knocks. One morning her Dad came by without calling and she went to the door in her robe with her revolver, saw that it was him, laid her dun on the table next to the front door and let him in. The look on his face must have been priceless when he looked down, saw the gun looked up at her back at the gun and back at her. He never said a word about it though. Although her parents aren't necessarily anti, I don't think that her dad has handled a gun since Korea. They know that I'm always armed as well as my Dad and her uncles and cousins. When we all get together it's a very safe place to be.

...my 18-year-old drums...or should I say DRUMS!!! and I often wear a good set of Peltor earmuffs when he gets wound up...was so sitting at the computer shirtless Tuesday, and looked up to see a young man with clipboard at the open door...I realized he'd prolly been ringing the doorbell and jumped up to go see what he wanted...I don't know what went through his mind but he decided real quickly to take no for an answer and said he'd check me off so noone would bother me again...turned down a bottle of cold water and skedaddled...I guess he thought I was serious about that P90, what with the earmuffs already on and all...saw him again later on in the neighborhood when we were giving a bid a few blocks away...(shirt on) and he couldn't quit grinning...was very polite...oh, well...

Re: Open carry in your own house?
I answered the door the other night (morning) with a shotgun in hand.kjolly wrote:Years ago, I had to retrieve my ex-wife from one of her friends residencies. 2:30 am and my neighbor's car alarm goes off. I peeked out the window and didn't see anyone around and saw that it wasn't my vehicle and I got back in bed. A few minutes later, someone was knocking on my door. I didn't have a loaded handgun handy (rare, but it happens) but I had the shotgun right there. I grabbed the shotty and went to see what the heck was going on. Looked through the peephole and saw a young man, looked like a college student. (My apartment is across the street from a college. More than half the people here are students.) Opened the door holding the shotgun behind the frame where he couldn't immediately see it. He very politely apologized for waking me up (like that alarm wouldn't raise the dead) and asked if that was my car. I told him no, it was my next-door neighbor's. He said he saw someone messing around the car when the alarm went off and he said something at the and they ran off. He followed them to another apartment behind mine where he said they went in and turned off the lights. The wouldn't answer the door despite his knocking and telling them he was going to call the cops. He had a girl with him who stood 10-15 feet back behind him and never said a word. I told them to be careful chasing people like that. We talked for several minutes. I told him that after an alarm went off then someone was beating on my door, I came to the door with the gun and showed it to him. He said he has a Glock. LOL, we had a good ol' gun talk out there at 2:30 in the morning. (Small West Texas town. Assume everyone is armed.)
Anyway, no damage to the car. No telling if someone was trying to brake into it or just college students horsing around and someone bumped the car and set off the alarm. (The students here are often drunk at that hour. I know you'll find that shocking.) It turned out to be nothing.
