Just let me know where to send the money. I'm so mad I can't see straight.

If someone wants to organize it, I will happily contribute (and also for every family member I have). It would be a great way to reward this young lady's honesty.

Perhaps an account could be opened that has branches all over Texas to make the donations, I know I'm on board.

WFAA.com is reporting on their homepage that an anonymous donor gave the family the $2000.00 they had every right to receive back from the City of Dallas. Looks like it's taken care of and we finally have a bright spot in this abysmal series of events.

I'm normally inclined to turn stuff in when I find it, to see if the owner came looking for it.
But if I lived in Dallas, after hearing this story, and I found something, it would be a cold day in heck before I turned it over to the city.

Not bad mouthing LEOs here, but I bet if we did the math, $2K will be burned up in gasoline by Dallas PD in one day of patrol car operation...though I am probably being too conservative in my figuring...sure presents a bad image for the City of Dallas. Lots of folks in other parts of the nation look for reasons to look down their noses at Texas, this sure doesn't help things.

Of all the low-down, dirty....

At a time when many of us decry the apparent decline in ethics, morals and values prevalent in society, observing a governmental entity (such as Dallas PD) punishing good behavior -- thereby implicitly rewarding bad behaviors -- just makes me shake my head. I pray that this misguided department reviews its policies in regards to how the citizens they work for will respond.

God Bless the donor that came forward per the post by TexDotCom.

It would still be great for the lady to continue to have her efforts and honesty recognized. I'd like to see a donation program happen and I will contribute to it happily.

From what I've read, it seems a NEW policy does not allow DPD to return monies found and turned in. If that is the case.....then PD was just following policy (albeit misguided).

Absolutely! I want her to know that every $1 she receives represents someone saying "thank you for your honesty and for the example you set for us all." I'll get something going.

Thanks for a great response folks.

I think Charles may of accidentally broken the rule already, but I don't blame him! How can we believe a city puts forth great effort to find the owner of anything, when in this instance they end up keeping lost money. I think it is a bad decision on someone's part.
