Not sure what dpd could do differently. It seems like they were following a (stupid) city policy.

Count me in for =>$1.03 (including PayPal fee... ).

It would be worth that just to hear the news story about how the Texas CHL Forum wanted to encourage good citizenship and thumb it's collective noses at the City of Dallas' wrongheadedness.

Honestly, what could be the total annual value of assets "seized" in this manner? Compare that to the lost good will from the citys' violation of the Golden Rule.

If I find $2k I'm keeping it & giving it to my church. That way I'm sure it'll be used for a good cause. I applaud the girls honesty though.

Just FYI, Piryx.com has a pretty easy-to-use online donations setup that should work for things like this. You still need a bank account for it to connect to, but it'll let you take credit cards with less hassle than some others. The fee is a bit higher than some at 4.5%, but that's the only fee you have to deal with, so it evens out for small and/or short-term fundraising.

Tell me how and my donation will be there!

I would pay into it. Just let me know how you want to handle it.

The news story doesn't indicate who made the decision; was it Dallas PD, or was it someone with the City of Dallas? However, the Dallas PD Officer didn't have to get in front of a TV camera and try to put a good spin on an incredibly unfair decision.

I'm going to try to get in touch with Ashley's father and talk to him about setting up a bank account at a bank close to me, but that has a branch close to him. If this works, I'll ask that donors make checks payable to Ashley, her father, or the fund, and send them to me for deposit. This way I can list the names of the people who donate so we can pass this information along to Ashley. For people who cannot send a check, like our very generous folks in Afghanistan, we can use the PayPal account already set up for the Texas Firearms Coalition. I'll set up a donation specifically for Ashley so it can be identified and a check can be cut to Ashley or his fund.

Is this plan sound acceptable to you folks?

If you're going to use paypal anyway, won't it be cheaper to use that instead of to pay for a check and stamp? Someone above said 3 or 4 cents extra for paypal transactions.

These days it's infinitely easier to send you a dollar or few via PayPal than it is to write you a check, spend a ($0.44?) stamp and find the post office. Then have you run to the bank for deposits, and risk a bounce or lost check or two.. Honestly, I can't recall the last time I wrote a paper check to anyone other than my kids school (those Barbarians  ).

I'd suggest doing this via whatever way you would find easiest, first of all... I'll write a check if that works best for you... but.. I'd vote for PayPal, then you can just write a check to the family with a note of thanks from all of us and be done. I don't need her to know my name... I'm happy to be known as one of 500 (or however many donate) "TXCHLForum members" on this..

IMO, YMMV.

I'm willing to do it however Charles wants to set it up.

If he wants a check, I'll just go online and have my bank mail him one. It takes about the same amount of time as PayPal.

Charles,

I'm in. Ill give $1 from me, my wife, my cat, and 2 dogs (each member of my family)
I am not sure I would find this thread again after you get the details from her father, so I would ask you start a new thread (at that time with details) with a title like $1 to Ashley or something that would say "Teamless - read me"
