So if a doctor practices preventive medicine by giving medical advice that guns should be removed from the home, would they be liable for malpractice in the event that the person taking their medical advice were to be injured in a home invasion? It seems like the doctor at the very least should provide advice on other means of self defense if they are recommending such a dangerous course of action.

I think I could have fun with this conversation:

Me: Why yes, I do have some guns, how about you? Do you want to go to the range this weekend?

Dr: I don't own any guns and you shouldn't have any guns in the house if you have kids.

Me: Why's that?

Dr: It's a well known fact that your kids are 12 gazillion times more likely to get killed by your guns, than by any sort of violent intruder. Your protection is up to the whims of the police. We don't need any vigilante behavior. This isn't 1880.

Me: Interesting point. I suppose my kids could also get ahold of my car keys. Maybe I should just start using the bus. I also need to fill in that pool in the back yard, and stop using cleaning supplies other than soap and water. Gee thanks Doc. So, what bus do you take to get to work?

“Drowning claims the lives of over 4,000 people every year. Although
all age groups are represented, children 0-4 have the highest death
rate due to drowning.”

“In 1998, 500 children under the age of five drowned. Most drowning
and near-drowning happen when a child falls into a pool or is left
alone in the bathtub.”

“For every child who drowns, six receive emergency department care for
near-drowning or non-fatal submersion injuries.”

(..)

“In 2000, 943 children ages 0 to 14 years died from drowning (CDC
2002). While drowning rates have been declining slowly over time
(Branche 1999), it remains the second-leading cause of injury-related
death for children ages 1 to 14
(CDC 2002).”

Many of these drownings occurred in
bathtubs and household buckets.

Best safety lesson my kids ever got. Doctors asking nosy questions never kept a single kid safe.
I did much the same thing with 2 liter soda bottles with water. Much less expensive.

Used a .270 Winchester, a 12 gauge, a .357 and a .22 LR. The damage inflicted by the .22 was impressive. The others basically obliterated the bottles by hydrostatic shock.

Taught my daughter and my stepson a good lesson. :nono:

No kids of my own yet, but that seems like a great way to get the point across that it is a dangerous weapon. Perhaps when I take my niece to the range I could use that lesson.

When are politicians going to do something about the dangers of dihydrogen monoxide?
