comissioned Security gear??
I have just completed my Level IV security card. I am in the process of a job hunt and most places I have seen say, "must have own gear". I am new to this line of work but am a former Marine infantryman. What kind of gear am I looking into getting. Thanks for the help.

Welcome to the forum Carlos. I don't know much about the security business. It probably varies depending on the type of assignment. Maybe you need to ask the people who are doing the hiring.CarlosMartinez wrote:I have just completed my Level IV security card. Working as a commissioned security officer (Level III) in uniform requires duty gear similar to that of an LEO on street patrol. Typically this will include a 2 inch duty belt, firearm, retention holster for the firearm, spare magazine case, flashlight and flashlight case, handcuff case (depending on company policy), OC unit and case (if you're OC qualified and again depending on company policy), latex glove case, baton and case (if you're certified and depending on company policy) and radio case.
Working as a personal protection officer (Level IV) in plainclothes requires duty gear similar to that of a plainclothes officer or detective. Typically this would include a 1 1/2" belt designed to support the weight of a gun (lots of good gun belt info on this forum - use the search feature to find the threads), firearm, concealed carry holster, spare magazine pouch, flashlight and flashlight holder, and the same other gear as above in concealed carry versions (depending on the assignment and company policy.)
Unlike with the open carry mode of a Level III assignment, the specific style choices for your equipment will be driven by what you'll be wearing for different Level IV assignments. Equipment suitable for wear under a suit jacket may not work nearly as well with a polo shirt. This means you may end up buying multiple versions of things like holsters and magazine carriers to fit different types of outer clothing.
If you're anywhere near Austin or Dallas, you can pick up everything you'll need at the local GT Distributors store with just one stop. They have good stock, an excellent selection, knowledgeable and helpful personnel, and good prices. They also give discounts to licensed security officers for some products.
Good luck in your new career. You should find lots of opportunities with a Level IV license.

Excalibur - Thanks very much for the information. thats just the response I was looking for. Not exactly for specific gear, just an idea of what gear I should expect to invest in. Also I am in Dallas so I will look into the Distributor you mentioned. Thanks a million.
