Isn't it frustrating at how many, including CHL holders AND some instructors, will try to tell you that church carry is illegal in Texas? (or better yet, that they are some sort of nationally recognized gun-free-zone?)
I'm new to this forum and have been looking for an answer to this question for awhile. I even asked the local DA and he could not give me the answer. Do you need permission from the church to carry concealed? I am in West Texas.
No permission is necessary. As long as your church does not have a compliant 30.06 sign at the entrances, you may carry without fear of legal consequences.

I carry while in worship. I always carry (even while walking my dog in my back yard) except where expressly forbidden by law.

I just came off stage a few minutes ago. I was packing. Still am. There's still another service to go.

I carry all the time. At home, at work, in church, everywhere. Period.

As for church...my current one has about 60 members, and there are two of us like-minded individuals. My old church was over 1000 members, and even most of the pastoral and office staff carried daily.

Our pastor just preached about it Sunday night, I am working on getting a copy to post on the blog. He cited the same reasons as I do in my post at http://thattexaslady.blogspot.com/2011/ ... carry.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

He never stated so, but I believe he's armed at all times.

A Pastor who preached about guns up in the Texas Panhandle .... Sure sounds like one of my cousins
"rlol"

I have relatives all over up there who are Pastors and Deacons

Last year, after visiting one in Abilene, Snyder, and Muleshoe, I visited one in Littlefiled, one in Lubbock etc etc ... In Littlefield, the kids were playing after the service in the Sanctuary and the Pastor and a visiting preacher said "show us your internal laser" ... I said ok lets go somewhere private ... they all laughed and said nah, we're all armed, (probably 30 or so people in there at the time, plus their kids) just shine it up in the baptistry ... :shock: :eek6

In Lubbock, a few just came out to the car to look in some of my suitcases (I don't leave guns at home when I'm traveling away for weeks at a time visiting churches ... and relatives)

Not only always, but I didn't even take off my gun when I was rebaptized a few years back.

In this same vein, it appears Ohio is working on some legislation to legally permit this. The NRA posted a link on their Facebook page and I am rather disturbed at reading the thoughts of some of our supposed "friends" of the 2nd Amendment. One such sterling example was considering anybody that couldn't go without carrying at church a redneck... my response:

"For those of you decying carrying in church, do a little reading on the New Life Church and Wedgewood Baptist Church killings. Even in the house of God, we can be attacked by the wolves. If it is redneck to want to maintain a means of securing the safety of my family, me and fellow believers at my chosen place of worship, then give me a Budwesier and a Number 3 NASCAR shirt"

I don't know if it has been socializing with you fine folks here but I'm having a hard time understanding how some folks logically conclude that there are places where people should not have a means to protect themselves. It's not even Biblically sound. :headscratch
